Legal at Brex

The Legal team helps the company grow responsibly, advocating for Brex and for the thousands of growing businesses we serve. We provide strategic advice and guidance to all Brex teams, protect Brex, advise on risk, and represent the company externally, negotiating with partners and interacting with regulators. Reimagining the financial system in a highly regulated environment requires creativity and resourcefulness, and we welcome the challenge.

What you’ll do

As a European Counsel based in London, you will be a key legal partner in launching and scaling Brex’s products in the EU and UK. You will be instrumental in building our legal function in Europe and will advise on a broad spectrum of matters, including regulatory licensing, product development, commercial contracts, litigation, corporate governance, and employment. Your work will directly shape Brex’s growth and geographic expansion, ensuring that our products and operations are legally sound, compliant, and designed for scale.

Where you'll work

This role will be based in our London office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of two coordinated days in the office per week, Wednesday and Thursday. Starting February 2, 2026, we will require three days per week in office - Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!

Responsibilities:

  • Lead analysis of EU and UK regulatory frameworks, identifying and securing the licenses and approvals required to launch and expand Brex’s products.
  • Provide strategic regulatory advice to product, compliance, and business teams on financial services, payments, commercial regulations, and market entry considerations.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of agreements, including customer, vendor, and partnership contracts.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to advise on regulatory, compliance, and risk considerations throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to launch.
  • Support the growth of Brex’s European offices by advising on corporate governance, employment, and entity management matters.
  • Act as a key representative for Brex before regulators, industry groups, and external stakeholders, building trust and credibility.
  • Manage Outside Counsel: Strategically manage external legal counsel for regulatory, privacy, and data matters, overseeing strategies and ensuring cost-effective advice.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of working experience in a combination of law firms, technology, and fintech companies, with a track record of working on privacy-related and financial regulatory issues.
  • Deep understanding of EU and UK financial services and commercial regulations, with the ability to anticipate and navigate evolving legal landscapes.
  • Exceptional judgment and integrity, ability to handle complex matters independently, and product-minded approach to lawyering.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work across various modes of communication; thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Capacity to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and manage time-sensitive projects.
  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent EU jurisdiction).

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with scaling legal teams and frameworks in high-growth companies.
  • Experience working autonomously and successfully in a high-paced, fast-growth environment.
