Key responsibilities
ESG Reporting
- Oversee enterprise-level ESG reporting, including data collection, analysis, and communication in accordance with global frameworks and standards (e.g., CSRD, CSDDD).
- Develop and implement an optimized ESG reporting framework, including standardized processes, optimized technology solutions, and appropriate controls to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and compliance with rising external reporting and assurance requirements across the enterprise.
- Ensure robust, consistent and transparent ESG disclosures through the ARA, RBR and other key reports and disclosures and submissions to priority ESG rating and ranking agencies to meet stakeholder expectations, comply with external reporting and disclosure requirements and maintain/improve Haleon’s performance in priority ESG ratings and rankings
- Oversee and be accountable for external limited assurance over Haleon’s ESG reporting, ensuring both quantitative and qualitative KPIs/disclosures are assurance ready ahead of Haleon’s first assurance cycle under CSRD..
Programme Management
- Lead the program management of Haleon’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy into action to drive short and long term value creation, protect value at risk and ensure sufficiency to meet externally committed goals.
- Through the LRP and ABP process, ensure resources and budget are in place across the business to deliver the strategy into action.
- Build a change programme ‘muscle’ and capability to address rapidly rising external requirements both around reporting and other requirements (e.g. regulation on packaging, deforestation, supply chain due diligence)
Performance management and governance
- Ensure effective governance and performance management of delivery through the SteerCo’s, Enterprise, BU, Category and Function scorecards and via ESS Board Sub Committee oversight and quarterly meetings.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on all matters related to ESG reporting, sustainability performance, and strategic progress.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and targets to measure progress toward ESG goals, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Manage and mentor a diverse team of 7+ ESG professionals, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and innovative culture.
Strategy
- Working closely with the sustainability VP and SME leads across the Central Sustainability Team, regularly review and update Haleon’s overarching ESG Strategy, ensuring this stays ahead of external developments, meets/exceeds key stakeholder expectations and is competitive vs. peers. Work with SMEs across the team and key stakeholders to embed ESG principles into core business processes and plans.
- Manage inputs and outputs from ESS (updates on Strategic achievements as well as Reporting readiness and deliverables), as well as ARC (providing assurance on in-year reporting and enterprise ESG risk) and RemCo (progress against PSP targets).
- Monitor emerging trends, regulations, and best practices in ESG reporting, regulation, disclosure, advising executive leadership on risks, opportunities, and strategic adjustments needed.
- Work with the team to engage with investors, ratings/rankings organisations, sponsoring banks to get their inputs into shifting expectations using this to inform updates to our ESG strategy, goals, reporting and disclosures.
Qualifications and skills
Essential
- Strong business insight and project management skills with ability to plan ahead, anticipate issues and manage complex interdependencies across multiple functions.
- Ability to work cross-functionally across the Enterprise
- Ability to bring together Finance and Non-Financial information and best-practices
- Understanding of ESG Reporting frameworks and rapidly evolving regulatory and reporting requirements
- Understanding of Stakeholder expectations on ESG, Peer and market expectations and shifts.
- Able to plan and project manage numerous workstreams and manage multiple conflicting priorities successfully within tight timelines.
- Able to take initiative to address issues and undertake improvement projects with the ability to work autonomously
- Need to address technical and system issues with no obvious answer. Able to “think out of the box” and introduce new solutions and technologies
- Develop solutions to complex problems and present confidently at the Senior / Board level
- Ability to manage and balance different stakeholder expectations, manage conflict and work to tight deadlines
Preferred
- Work effectively in a matrixed environment with different stakeholders and all levels of management and to manage stakeholders at all levels of the Enterprise, including up to Board level.
- Communicate confidently and effectively (verbal and written) within the team and with people in a range of disciplines from external auditors and other functions which may have varying levels of knowledge and understanding of Sustainability and ESG topics
- Work with stakeholders based in different locations and with different backgrounds and from other functions within the Enterprise
- Prioritise and work on multiple activities in parallel. The role covers daily operational deliverables and strategic projects with focus on managing multiple reporting deadlines and delivering results
- Explain complex concepts in simple terms to a wide range of stakeholders
- Resolve conflicts and engage people in a dialogue to gain commitment and bring them on board
