Now, 400+ clients and over 13,000 companies worldwide count on Novata to make collecting, reporting, and acting on sustainability data easy.

Job Summary

This role sits within our Metrics & Regulations team, part of Novata's Legal team. You'll be embedded in a cross-functional department that works closely with Novata's Product, Customer Success, Revenue, and Marketing teams.

You will play a key role in developing and maintaining Novata's Metric Library — an extensive collection of more than 5,000 sustainability metrics spanning global standards, frameworks, and regulations that our clients use and interact with through the Novata platform. You'll help shape how sustainability reporting and policy are embedded into the platform, incorporate advancements in regulatory standards and frameworks, and support clients in making use of the data they collect on Novata. This is a chance to work at the intersection of technology and sustainability, helping shape Novata's research and data product offerings. With Novata's growing footprint across European markets, this role carries a particular focus on the regulatory and reporting landscape in the EMEA region.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leverage data analytics and AI tools to drive product decision-making, support benchmarking, and help clients draw insights and take action on the data collected on Novata.
  • Serve as the ESG product subject-matter-expert (SME) for sustainability regulations, ESG standards, and frameworks (both internally and externally for our clients).
  • Research industry best practices on data collection and stay on top of regulatory advancements to support the development of sustainability metrics and enhance Novata’s metric library and metric creation strategy.
  • Research ESG developments including standards developments, regulatory changes, and best practices across industry.
  • Liaise with Customer Success and support client requests and questions around sustainability metrics, custom metric development, and metric guidance.
  • Help build out and maintain the regulatory content behind Novata's Regulatory Navigator – owning the accuracy of the regulation catalog by verifying content against official sources, keeping effective dates and regulatory guidance current, and tracking EU member-state transposition of directives such as CSRD and CSDDD.

You Have

  • Strong data analytics skills – demonstrated comfort working with large, complex datasets and extracting insights from them. Experience at a high-growth start-up is a plus.
  • German-language proficiency (strongly preferred). Professional working proficiency in German is a significant advantage given our EMEA regulatory focus.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with a sense of which trade-offs to make between business objectives and technical constraints; great attention to detail and a no-compromise approach to quality.
  • Extensive data fluency - comfortable identifying, cleaning, and analyzing complex datasets and translating insights into defensible strategies, narratives, goals, and actions.
  • Excellent communication - adept at writing, speaking, and listening to internal and external stakeholders and can effectively convey complex topics, needs, and objectives, and you actively seek to understand the perspectives, needs, and objectives of stakeholders as well.
  • Experience with leveraging or building AI products and workflows that enhance productivity, insight, and decision-making.
  • A resourceful, mission-driven generalist mindset — someone who thrives on a wide range of challenges and is excited to add value wherever they can.
  • Refined research skills, with a talent for synthesising large amounts of complex information.
  • A self-starter that moves quickly and takes a proactive approach to problem-solving. We are looking for a team player with low ego, a great sense of humor, and a drive to produce high-quality work at pace!

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of sustainability solutions experience in a consulting, research, or sustainability role (education may be considered in addition to experience).
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree (Environmental Studies, Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or similar field) from an accredited institution; considered a plus, or MA or MSc in a relevant field considered a plus.
  • Certification(s) from standard organizations such as GRI, ISSB (FSA), GHGP, SBTi, etc. or relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with sustainability standards and frameworks including but not limited to CDP, IFRS, SASB, TCFD, GRI, etc is a plus.
  • Experience using Greenhouse Gas Protocol, carbon accounting, and sustainability disclosures considered an asset.

Important Notes

  • This role is based in London, with hybrid working arrangements (2 days in office).
  • Applicants must be located in and eligible to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to support visa applications or relocation at this time.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary
  • Equity ownership opportunities
  • Comprehensive health benefits packages (medical, dental, non-contributory pension scheme)
  • Robust leave policies (PTO, parental leave, VTO)
  • Flexible work environment with two days working from the London Office
  • Mission-driven, collaborative, and inclusive culture
