The Crick is a place for collaboration, innovation and exploration across many disciplines. A space where the brightest minds can pursue big and bold ideas and discover answers to crucial scientific questions. We support them in a dynamic environment which fosters excellence with state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge facilities, and a creative and curious culture. We’ve removed traditional boundaries of departments, divisions and disciplines and instead have an open approach that supports every researcher. This gives us the freedom to take risks and carry out high-quality, pioneering research. Creating a space for discovery without boundaries helps us to turn our science into benefits for human health and the economy.

About the role

We are looking for an EDI Manager to join our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

Immediate priorities in the first 6-8 months will include:

  • Work with the EDI Lead to develop and implement the Crick’s Inclusion Strategy, ensuring strong alignment with funder priorities and the Institute’s long-term research culture goals.
  • Manage the Crick’s contribution to a significant new EDI life sciences sector-wide initiative, delivered in partnership with an external organisation and supported by grant funding. Includes a focus on creating beacon content for the biomedical sciences and strengthening the Institute’s influence across the sector.
  • Continue to ensure strong alignment between the Inclusion Strategy, the Athena Swan programme and wider organisational and People Team priorities
  • Mentor and support the EDI Advisor to Programme Manage the delivery of the 2025 Athena Swan action plan and prepare the Crick for a Silver application in 2029/2030, working closely with the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team Chair (project sponsor).
  • Work with colleagues across Talent & OD and the wider People Team to improve recruitment, progression, recognition and inclusive leadership practice.
  • Lead the development of a robust evidence base for action, evaluation and reporting, including quantitative EDI data and qualitative insight, and commissioning research where appropriate. Produce an annual EDI data report enabling evaluation against KPIs, Inclusion Strategy objectives and mandatory Athena Swan requirements.
  • Build beacon activities that influence the biomedical sciences and strengthen the Crick’s reputation as a leader in equality, diversity and inclusion.

About you:

  • Persuasive influencer able to build strong relationships with senior leaders, scientific colleagues, funders and a wide range of stakeholders. *
  • Excellent strategic planning and project leadership skills, including prioritisation, risk management and delivery in complex environments. *
