We are seeking an Engineering Team Supervisor to lead and inspire our on-site scientific equipment support team in Cambridge. Successful Candidate will oversee the daily operations of the engineering team, ensuring that projects, maintenance, and technical activities are completed efficiently, safely, and according to company standards. This role bridges the gap between management and the engineering staff, providing technical guidance, supervising personnel, and maintaining operational excellence. This is a leadership role for someone passionate about developing talent and empowering their team to achieve its full potential.

In addition to ensuring safe and compliant service delivery, the Engineering Team Supervisor will build strong client relationships, encourage open communication, and guide the team through changes and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-Day Team Management: Oversee the daily operations of the engineering team to deliver contracted services safely and efficiently, ensuring appropriate resources are deployed.

  • Performance & Compliance Oversight: Monitor and manage KPI metrics, maintaining CMMS system information and documentation produced by the engineering team, and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Lead and encourage the team in identifying and implementing process improvements, cost-saving initiatives, and adoption of new technologies or best practices, including potential to increase our maintained equipment portfolio.

  • Budget & Financial Oversight: Track savings and financial initiatives related to engineering team activities, ensuring all cost-saving measures are properly documented and reported.

  • Performance Management: Ensure regular goal setting, performance reviews, and effective feedback in line with company policies and procedures. Resolves problems and/or conflicts and maintains open communication with the client, escalating all issues to the Engineering Ops Manager.

  • Staff Development & Recruitment: Support the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of team members, maintaining up-to-date training records and skills matrices.

  • Stakeholder & Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain proactive relationships with key client stakeholders, regularly seeking feedback to improve service delivery.

  • Change Management: Guide the team through organizational changes, onboarding of new technologies, and adaptation to evolving client requirements.

  • Reporting & Communication: Provide clear, regular management reports and communicate technical and operational information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with other internal teams and service line specialists to identify opportunities for collaboration, process integration, and asset portfolio optimization.

  • Health & Safety Leadership: Champion a culture of safe working practices, hazard and incident reporting, and drive the implementation of health and safety improvements as needed. Comply with PerkinElmer and client safe systems of work ensuring Risk Assessments and Work Instructions in place for regular engineering activities.

Critical skills and experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop multidisciplinary teams, fostering strong morale and accountability.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with technical teams, non-technical stakeholders, and clients.

  • Experience in setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and providing constructive feedback.

  • Capability to mediate and resolve workplace conflicts effectively, maintaining team harmony and productivity.

  • Ability to manage resources, schedules, and priorities to deliver services efficiently.

  • Deep understanding and enforcement of health, safety, and compliance standards within engineering environments.

  • Track record of identifying, leading, and implementing process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.

  • High customer focus, skill in building and sustaining positive, proactive relationships with clients or external stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage change and guide a team through organizational, technological, or client-driven adjustments.

  • Knowledge of engineering software and tools relevant to the industry would be advantage.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical Engineering Qualification or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or relevant field).

  • PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).

Working Environment:

  • Role is site based on a customer site, 5 day a week, Monday to Friday.

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory.
