Engineering Manager

London Victoria Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home

Ebury is a Global FinTech: we apply new technologies to enhance and automate financial services and processes. We're breaking down the barriers set by incumbent banks to accelerate cross-border trade. Be part of our mission.

The Growth team at Ebury is seeking a Lead Engineer to play a crucial part in our team. In this role, you will build a new team and have a huge impact on Ebury’s business.  We have an exciting backlog of exciting greenfield projects, ready to go.

We’re looking for the right attitude, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit to ask the hard questions. To be informed by data, but be led by a desire to solve our customers' problems. You should learn by default and be ever curious. You should be programming language, framework, tool agnostic but have strong opinions (weakly held) on the right tool to solve our biggest problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive growth for Ebury.
  • Understand company and client challenges, be customer-focused.
  • Managing product priorities.
  • Represent the team in different forums.
  • Work closely with Product to have clear implementation plans for product roadmaps.
  • Foster technical decision-making on the team, but make final decisions when necessary.
  • Define and implement best practices for monitoring, incident management, and troubleshooting of infrastructure and applications.
  • Design and implement automation tools and processes to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new systems and services to ensure they meet our reliability and scalability requirements.
  • Manage the team's performance, develop career paths, and provide coaching and mentoring to team members.
  • Give regular and clear feedback around an individual's performance.
  • Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies, tools, and practices.
  • Setting clear team goals.
  • Delegating tasks and set deadlines for your team.

Experience and qualifications

  • Experience building customer and or sales-facing technology.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in applying AI/ML to solve customer problems would be a bonus.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing teams.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • Decision-making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, and databases.
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Since you will work side by side with colleagues from different countries, you will be able to communicate clearly and concise your ideas in English both written and spoken.
