🐦 About Birdie

At Birdie, we’re reimagining care for older adults. We’re building the technology that powers the future of home healthcare, empowering care teams with tools to deliver better, more dignified care, and enabling older people to thrive in their own homes for longer. Our all-in-one solution powers millions of care visits every month, equipping care providers with the tools they need to deliver exceptional, efficient care.

We’re not here to tinker at the edges. We’re here to radically transform a broken system.

That’s why we’ve built an all-in-one platform that supported over 30 million care visits in 2023 and more than 60 million in 2024 and we continue to grow our impact. We’re scaling fast, but staying true to our purpose. That’s why we’re proud to be a B Corp, using business as a force for good

Founded in 2017, Birdie is backed by world-class investors like Index Ventures, Sofina and Omers. In 2023, we ranked #6 in the Deloitte Fast 50, making us one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the UK. You can check out more about our impact and recognition here.

But speed isn’t the point. Impact is.

🤩 Your mission

As Engineering Manager, your responsibility is to build happy, healthy, engaged teams that deliver timely impact, sustainably. You will proactively role model this craft to other EMs and partner with other leaders on opportunities to level up the wider org. You will directly support engineers with their personal & professional development, and guide the entire team (in partnership with product and design peers) to deliver exceptional software that has measurable impact for our customers. And you will grow with us, taking on increasing responsibility (such as line managing other managers) over time.

🤩 How you will contribute

  • You coach, guide and unblock engineers in their career, personal development, and ability to craft high-quality software.

  • You invest with product and design peers in your effectiveness as team leaders together.

  • You work with product and design peers to deliver on a compelling strategy (aligned with company objectives), driving ambiguity out of plans and making tradeoffs explicit.

  • You use your technical background and ability to empower, mentor and lead engineers, deeply empathising with their challenges.

  • You take ownership of team services, ensuring your team delivers good software and a high standard of service to users.

  • You own the shape of your engineering team, collaborating closely with talent acquisition and people chapters to ensure the right composition now and in the future.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if

  • You have proven experience as an Engineering Manager with successful people management skills and a bias for action.

  • You have a strong set of technical skills, able to weigh in on technical discussions and drive good technical practices.

  • You have applied knowledge of the ins and outs of coaching & growing distributed product teams.

  • You embrace change, are able to take a step back.

  • You focus on outcomes over processes, and coach your team to do the same.

  • You are someone who is inspired by, and seeks to embody our values.

  • You are humble, and you love learning new things and can mentor or coach others.

  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
