  • Shift pattern: 37 Hours Per Week Monday-Friday

 

Are you up for the challenge of leading a depot through one of the most significant transformations in Stagecoach engineering?


Ecclesfield depot is entering an exciting new chapter, with plans for a full site renovation and the introduction of a new electric vehicle fleet. Together, these investments will create a modern engineering operation, providing a unique opportunity to redefine standards, embrace new technologies, and drive improvements in performance, reliability and efficiency.


We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead this transformation, supporting and developing a committed engineering team while preparing the depot for a fully electric future. This is a rare opportunity to shape the direction of the depot, establishing the engineering culture, capability and processes needed to maximise the benefits of significant investment and deliver sustained operational improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in turning this investment into enhanced engineering performance and making Ecclesfield a flagship operation for the future.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Leading a skilled team of engineers, technicians, cleaners, and apprentices to ensure our fleet is safe, reliable, and customer-ready
  • Managing the maintenance and presentation of 55 service buses and 2 training vehicles, including transitioning to an EV fleet
  • Overseeing depot plant, workshop equipment, and building maintenance, ensuring statutory compliance and a proactive approach to health & safety
  • Managing daily operations including resource planning, stock control, procurement, and supplier relationships
  • Coaching, developing, and empowering team members, helping them grow their technical capability and career progression
  • Using data, performance insights, and engineering best practice to drive continuous improvement
  • Working closely with the Engineering Director and contributing to regional projects, fleet strategy, and long-term planning
  • Maintaining engineering quality in line with DVSA regulations and Stagecoach engineering standards

 

What we’re looking for

 

  • Engineering experience in sectors such as bus, coach, HGV, rail, plant, or automotive
  • A strong people leader, whether already a manager or ready to step up into your first depot leadership role
  • A proactive, organised, and safety-first mindset
  • Experience with compliance, budgets, audits, and health & safety
  • A passion for reliability, operational excellence, and high presentation standards
