We tackle the most complex problems in quantitative finance, by bringing scientific clarity to financial complexity.

From our London HQ, we unite world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution - because the best ideas take time to evolve.  Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.

As part of our engineering team, you’ll shape the platforms and tools that drive high-impact research - designing systems that scale, accelerate discovery and support innovation across the firm.

Take the next step in your career.

The role

This role sits within the Basecamp Technology group, providing specialised engineering capabilities and scalable components to our Research and Trade Technology groups. You will design, build and operate scalable solutions that improve the developer and research experience across the organisation.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the strategy, design and delivery of critical engineering and research-facing systems. You will guide and grow a team of talented engineers working closely with stakeholders to build out our best-in-class tooling.

We operate an advanced systematic client trading platform. Its systems are fully automated, globally distributed and operate at extreme scale, executing millions of trades per day. Ensuring platform resilience, uptime and operational efficiency is mission-critical.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leading the team responsible for enabling quantitative researchers to efficiently utilise a large-scale compute estate
  • Setting technical direction and overseeing systems that simplify running workloads across large-scale compute farms, ensuring reliability and scalability
  • Owning the strategy and evolution of the scheduling platform (F#) and its Python/.NET interfaces, the primary tools used by researchers
  • Guiding the development of real-time observability tooling, such as TypeScript/React, F#, ASP.NET and Postgres on Kubernetes, to provide clear visibility into workload execution
Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • Experience leading teams building distributed, high-performance or compute-intensive systems
  • Familiarity with research or data-driven workflows
  • Experience delivering reliable, scalable production systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work closely with researchers and technical stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Why should you apply?
  • Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
  • Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar
  • 35 days' annual leave
  • 9% company pension contributions
  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
  • Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Monthly company events

G-Research is committed to cultivating and preserving an inclusive work environment. We are an ideas-driven business and we place great value on diversity of experience and opinions.

We want to ensure that applicants receive a recruitment experience that enables them to perform at their best. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation please let us know in the relevant section
