Meet the Team Behind This Journey

Our journey is built on the foundation of DeepL, a name synonymous with world-class translation quality and language AI. We are now scaling our engineering organization to define the art of the possible for real-time voice interpretation and beyond.

To support this aggressive growth, we are evolving our Developer Experience (DevEx) organization. This team is the "Execution Engine" of DeepL engineering. We are bringing together DevWorkflows, DevPlatform, and the Quality Assurance Department (QAD) under a single strategic mission: Speed + Quality.

Our goal is to reduce the time it takes for builds to go through pipelines while simultaneously raising the quality bar. You will lead a team responsible for the entire SDLC—from local development environments and AI-powered internal tooling (CodeEx) to stable backend infrastructure and optimized frontend builds. If you are a builder who thrives on the challenge of "High Velocity with High Quality," this is your team.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead the DevEx Strategy: You will own the long-term technical strategy and execution for the DevEx domain, uniting the "Workflow" (building code) and "Platform" (running code) teams to create a seamless developer journey.

  • Drive Speed & Quality: Your primary mission is to optimize the engineering feedback loop. This includes drastically reducing build times (specifically focusing on frontend pipeline velocity) while ensuring stability and reliability.

  • Modernize Quality Assurance: You will inherit and lead the QA Department (QAD). You will be responsible for defining a modern testing strategy that shifts focus from manual gates to automated pipelines, tooling, and engineering-led quality.

  • Scale the Organization: As a Senior Engineering Manager (L5), you will manage other Engineering Managers and Leads. You will mentor them to become stronger technical leaders, specifically upskilling the wider track on quality ownership and tooling best practices.

  • Evolve the Platform: You will oversee the transition to full-stack infrastructure ownership, ensuring our internal AI tooling (CodeEx) and Kubernetes-based environments are robust, scalable, and delightful to use.

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: You will work closely with other Track Leads (e.g., Voice) to ensure our tooling roadmap aligns with business-critical product goals, effectively removing organizational-level roadblocks.

What We Look For
  • Senior Engineering Leadership: You have a proven track record as a "Manager of Managers," having successfully scaled engineering organizations and led other leaders (EMs or Leads).

  • Hybrid Platform & Quality Background: You possess a unique blend of experience in Platform Engineering (CI/CD, Kubernetes, GitLab, Internal Developer Platforms) and Quality Strategy. You understand how to build infrastructure that enforces quality by default.

  • Strategic "Builder" Mindset: You are not just a theorist or a researcher; you are a hands-on leader who has owned the delivery of business-critical improvements to engineering velocity. You can translate "better tooling" into tangible business speed.

  • Focus on Developer Velocity: You have specific experience diagnosing and fixing slow build pipelines (frontend/backend) and have successfully implemented tools that improved the daily life of engineers.

  • Quality beyond SDET: While you understand testing deeply, your experience goes beyond being a "Senior SDET." You have experience owning the strategy of quality for a wider organization, influencing how product teams build and ship software.

  • Mentorship & Influence: You are capable of mentoring senior engineers and managers outside of your direct reporting line, helping to raise the bar for the entire engineering track.

We are an equal opportunity employer

You are welcome at DeepL for who you are—we appreciate authenticity here. Our product is for everyone, and so is our workplace. The more voices we have represented and amplified in our business, the more we will all succeed, contribute, and think forward! So bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It’s in our diversity that we will find the power to break down language barriers in the world.
