Job Description

Grow with the challenge

At the time of inception, cloud-based systems and API fluency were new. But that didn't scare us. We waved goodbye to legacy systems and embraced modern technology – where our true innovation began and didn't stop.

No hierarchy, no egos. Just a spirit of collaboration that flows right throughout our organisation – it’s woven into our DNA. We genuinely want to know about each other’s learnings and expertise, especially where it can help us achieve bigger things.

At ClearBank, we make things happen. We solve problems together because we know that many heads are always better than one. Valuing different perspectives is what sets our culture apart. And being able to disagree and commit is key to our progress. Above all we’re a team because when we win together, it feels so much better than doing it alone.

What you can expect:

ClearBank is a place where you can do things differently and challenge the status quo. We will give you a high level of autonomy and transparency, and we trust you to make the right decisions for the bank.

If that excites you, how about joining our Customer Products Engineering team as an Engineering Manager, reporting to the team’s Director of Engineering. You will form and lead a team responsible for one of our emerging payment domains, building a partnership with Product colleagues to plan, deliver and improve technical capabilities in an exciting area for ClearBank.

Your role includes:

  • Leading an engineering team (or teams) responsible for a set of associated services.

  • Driving team ownership of their services and the processes used to deliver them.

  • Ensuring the team’s people are set up for success, including hiring to introduce new talent and coaching team members to achieve their full potential.

  • Collaborating with partners in teams such as IT, Product, Operations and Security to plan future roadmaps, prepare initiatives and execute effectively.

  • Improving the team’s security posture and quality practices to maintain reliable and secure services.

  • Facilitating regular activities such as daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives and operational performance reviews.

  • Managing 24/7 support when necessary and rapid reaction to issues, including ensuring post incident actions are identified and completed efficiently.

What you’ll bring:

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Experience successfully leading software development teams and knowledge of what appropriate models look like to set teams up for success.

  • Strong communication skills, being able to communicate effectively and influentially with IT teams, partners (such as Product and Operations) and stakeholders.

  • Good technical skills, with exposure to Azure, C#, SQL and related technologies or closely aligned alternatives.

  • People focused and skilled in coaching the team and individual team members to achieve a high level of performance.

  • A continuous improvement mindset, being able to identify opportunities and develop a strategy to improve team, processes and technical capabilities.

  • Good understanding of agile and lean development practices and how to apply these within a complex environment.

  • A good understanding of modern software development practices, including implementing CI/CD, managing cloud-based capabilities and improving delivery flow.

Regretfully we are not able to sponsor applicants for immigration purposes at the current time.

What makes a great ClearBank team member? Does this sound like you?

  • You focus on solutions and positive outcomes, thinking radically and responsibly to find the best result for our customers, your colleagues and the bank;

  • You actively seek feedback from others to drive your growth and development, always assuming positive intent from others and develop strong, trusting relationships you’re your colleagues and customers: you really, genuinely care;

  • You always strive for the highest quality, but you know that done is better than perfect; you welcome a challenge knowing that they learn as you go and iterate;

  • ‘I’ before ’we’, isn’t in your vocabulary

If this sounds like you then we encourage you to dust off that CV and apply!
