The Opportunity:

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Priceless team through people and technical leadership with a dedication to mentorship, knowledge sharing, cultivating belonging, and collaboration. The Priceless team focuses on continuously enhancing commercetools’ promotions and pricing capabilities to make it the obvious choice for our customers to effortlessly create their commerce experience in a reliable and scalable way. 

Your Mission:

  • Responsible for the people and culture in your team:
    • You are vital for making your team a better place by growing your people and investing in your team’s health, motivation, career, culture, and team building 
    • You foster a culture of mutual constructive feedback and support in your team and that everyone feels safe to express their ideas and suggestions
    • You conduct great 1-1 with your engineers 
  • Responsible for the delivery and the processes of your team:
    • You are crucial for getting things rolling and ensuring a smooth delivery 
    • You are removing blockers and seeking process improvements collaboratively with your team and your Product Manager
  • Champion our tech vision and consult the engineers accordingly
  • Collaborative with Engineering Managers of other teams, Tech Leads, Agile Coaches, a People Business Partner, Head of Engineering, and the CTO

What you need to succeed:

  • Multiple years of experience as a manager of software engineers in a distributed product team
  • An engineering background ideally in backend development on the JVM
  • Capable of hands-on coding where possible (e.g. review PRs, smaller tasks, pairing), software architecture, and system design
  • Track record and passion for growing, coaching, and mentoring your team
  • An excellent understanding of agile software development methodologies, best practices, and tools. You know their trade-offs and how they can support a smooth delivery of your team’s goals
  • Excellent communication skills and an empathetic and self-reflective mindset
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills to work in an international environment
  • Commitment to knowledge sharing and learning from everyone around you about leadership and new technologies 

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Java, Kotlin, or Scala backend development 
  • Experience in the commerce industry
