We are seeking an Engineering Manager, with a bias towards Infrastructure Engineering, to join the World Check One team, part of the Risk Intelligence Product Engineering organisation.
The role will lead and empower teams to design, build, and continuously improve secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure solutions for World-Check One—a critical platform for risk intelligence and compliance screening.
Role Description
As an Engineering Manager for World-Check One, you will lead a team focused on building and maintaining resilient systems with a strong emphasis on AWS cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, and modern engineering principles. The scope includes people leadership, delivery management, and technical guidance within a team or product group. The successful impact of this role is building an environment where engineers can grow, systems are well-designed, and outcomes meet customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers and DevOps specialists.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Drive performance management, career development, and team engagement.
Technical Strategy & Delivery
Define and implement the engineering roadmap aligned with product and business goals.
Ensure high availability, automation, scalability, and security of World-Check One systems.
Oversee architecture decisions, code quality, and standard process adoption.
AWS Infrastructure & DevOps
Work with our Infrastructure architects to develop the solution designs and optimization for our AWS-based infrastructure (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, etc.).
Continually improve our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
Drive CI/CD pipeline automation and deployment strategies using tools such as GitHub Pipelines and Jenkins.
Champion observability and reliability through monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (CloudWatch, Datadog).
Security & Compliance
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal security policies.
Implement robust identity and access management (IAM) and data protection measures.
Team Collaboration
Partner with Product Managers, Architects, and other Engineering Managers to deliver high-quality solutions across the whole portfolio.
Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical interested parties.
Core Proficiencies
Technical: Coach the team to apply strong technical practices across software and infrastructure, remaining hands-on where it matters. Build credibility through delivery and set clear expectations for quality, reliability, and maintainability.
Customer Focus: Guide the team to design and deliver with customer needs in mind, respond quickly to operational issues, and use feedback to improve delivery.
Risk Management: Balance speed with safety, set expectations for secure delivery, and use insights to improve risk awareness and decision-making.
Leadership: Take ownership of outcomes, guide others through ambiguity, and coach the team to learn from feedback and grow future engineers.
Analytical: Foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making, measurable improvement, and innovation through data.
Adaptability: Encourage creative thinking, continuous improvement, and adoption of better ways of working.
Communication: Communicate priorities, feedback, and expectations clearly, connecting team work to goals and outcomes.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead in a SaaS or enterprise environment.
Strong hands-on expertise in AWS cloud services and DevOps practices.
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation).
Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS).
Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, DataDog).
Strong knowledge of security protocols in cloud environments.
Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
AWS Certified Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer certification.
Experience with microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
