Reporting into the Head of Platform Engineering, you will be supporting our Cloud Platform team in designing and building our new platform on GCP, with a view to creating an excellent developer experience for our engineering teams! A new role to the business, you will be working on a greenfield solution, with the autonomy, independence and scope to shape the direction of the team!

We're taking the opportunity to reassess and rearchitect (or retire) critical parts of our infrastructure, networking, and applications. A key element of this role will be helping the team to balance our desire to do things right with our need to move quickly and show clear progress. We don't have a central architecture team, so the onus will be on the Cloud Platform team to really understand and anticipate our user's needs, in order to deliver solutions that they want to use.

What you'll be doing

  • Line managing a high performing team
  • Developing and managing our cloud platforms (GCP and Azure)
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with peers in other teams and users of your systems
  • Implementing solutions which our internal dev teams love (and they have very high standards!)
  • Assessing and improving the people, process and tech in your team and beyond (for example, upskilling teams, managing BAU processes, or adopting new tools)

What we think you'll need

  • Previous experience line managing teams
  • Experience developing and managing a cloud platform (GCP preferred, Azure second, others third)
  • Experience working in a start-up or scale-up. If you have experience of teams routinely (and safely) deploying code to prod within hours of writing it, that would be ideal.
  • Demonstrable experience collaborating across multiple teams to deliver complex initiatives
  • A strong user-focused mentality (especially dev experience)
  • A coding background is a nice-to-have, but not essential

Next Steps

If this opportunity feels like the right fit for your next career move, we’d love to hear from you! Even if you don’t meet every requirement, don’t hesitate to apply or reach out to Chess (Internal Recruiter) at [email protected]
