A taste of what you'll be doing:

  • Lead and Inspire: Guide and mentor a team of talented backend engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and high performance.

  • Strategic Vision: Contribute to the strategic direction of the backend team, ensuring alignment with E.ON Next's technology vision and business objectives.

  • Delivery Champion: Take ownership of the team's delivery outcomes, collaborating closely with Product Managers and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

  • Technical Excellence: Champion engineering best practices, ensuring the team delivers high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

  • Empowerment Advocate: Empower your team to make technical decisions, providing guidance and support while encouraging autonomy and ownership.

  • Growth Facilitator: Support the professional development of your team members, providing opportunities for growth and learning.

  • Collaboration Catalyst: Foster strong relationships with other teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication across the organization.

  • Hands-on Leader: While your focus will be on leadership and management, you'll still have opportunities to contribute technically and stay connected to the code.

Are we the perfect match?

  • Leadership Expertise: Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams, with a focus on fostering collaboration, growth, and high performance.

  • Technical Foundation: Strong technical background with experience in backend development, ideally with Python and AWS.

  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to think strategically and contribute to the technical direction of the team.

  • Delivery Focus: Track record of successfully delivering high-quality software solutions.

  • Agile & DevOps Advocate: Embraces agile methodologies and DevOps practices, with a focus on continuous improvement and automation.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.  

  • Mentorship & Coaching: Passion for mentoring and coaching engineers, helping them grow and develop their skills.

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience with microservices architectures and serverless technologies.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Location –  London (E.ON Next, 47-53 Charterhouse Street, Farringdon, London, EC1M 6PB) with travel to our other sites when required. 

  • Hybrid working approach: split your week between home and our London hub, with a team goal of meting in the office one day per week

  • Generous holidays: 26 days holiday plus bank holidays

  • Generous pension scheme (you contribute 5%, we contribute 6%, increasing to 10% after 2 years)
