Multi-skilled Engineer - Life Sciences Real Estate 

JLL Technologies | Real Estate Management Services 

Job Summary & Purpose 

We are seeking an exceptional Multi-skilled Engineer to join our Life Sciences Real Estate Management Services team, supporting a critical new transition account across in the UK. This role represents a unique opportunity to shape operational excellence from the ground up, working with cutting-edge life sciences facilities while ensuring seamless service delivery during the crucial client onboarding phase. 

As our Multi-skilled Engineer, you will be the technical backbone of mission-critical pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities, ensuring optimal performance of complex building systems while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory compliance. This position combines technical engineering expertise with strategic facility management, requiring both hands-on problem-solving and collaboration across diverse European markets. 

Key Responsibilities & Job Scope 

Technical Engineering Excellence 

  • HVAC Systems Management: Maintain and optimize sophisticated air handling systems, including cleanroom HVAC, temperature/humidity controls, and differential pressure monitoring critical to pharmaceutical operations 

  • Electrical Systems: Oversee power distribution, emergency backup systems, UPS management, and specialized lighting systems for laboratory environments 

  • Mechanical Systems: Manage compressed air systems, pure water/WFI systems, steam systems, and specialized manufacturing equipment support 

  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and execute comprehensive maintenance schedules ensuring 99.9%+ uptime for critical systems 

  • Emergency Response: Provide 24/7 technical support and rapid response capabilities for system failures or anomalies 

Life Sciences Compliance & Validation 

  • GMP Compliance: Ensure all facility operations meet Good Manufacturing Practice standards and support regulatory inspections 

  • Cleanroom Management: Maintain ISO 14644 classified environments, including particle monitoring, airflow verification, and contamination control 

  • Validation Support: Assist with Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) protocols 

  • Documentation Management: Maintain detailed logs, calibration records, and change control documentation per FDA/EMA requirements 

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct facility risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for operational continuity 

Transition Account Management 

  • System Handovers: Lead technical due diligence and system documentation for newly acquired facilities 

  • Standard Operating Procedures: Develop and implement SOPs tailored to each facility's unique requirements 

  • Vendor Management: Establish relationships with local suppliers and service providers across all four countries 

  • Technology Integration: Implement JLL's proprietary facility management systems and IoT monitoring solutions 

  • Performance Metrics: Establish baseline KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives 

Multi-Country Operations 

  • Cultural Adaptability: Navigate diverse regulatory environments and business practices across EMEA

  • Local Compliance: Ensure adherence to country-specific health, safety, and environmental regulations 

  • Stakeholder Management: Build relationships with local teams, client representatives, and regulatory bodies 

  • Knowledge Transfer: Mentor local technicians and ensure consistent service delivery standards 

Required Qualifications 

Education & Professional Development 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification) 

  • Professional Engineering certification preferred (e.g., CEng, EUR ING, or local equivalent) 

  • Life Sciences facility management certification (ISPE, ASHRAE, or similar) highly desirable 

  • Ongoing professional development commitment in pharmaceutical engineering trends 

Experience Requirements 

  • Minimum 5-7 yearsin multi-disciplinary engineering roles within life sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology facilities 

  • Minimum 3 yearsexperience in facility management or real estate services 

  • Proven track record in account transitions, system commissioning, or facility startups 

  • Experience working across multiple European countries preferred 

  • Background in regulated environments with inspection readiness experience 

Language & Communication 

  • English: Fluent (written and verbal)

  • Strong technical writing skills for documentation and reporting 

Technical Competencies 

Core Engineering Disciplines 

  • HVAC Systems: Chilled water systems, steam systems, clean steam, industrial refrigeration 

  • Electrical Systems: 400V/230V distribution, motor control, instrumentation, fire alarm systems 

  • Process Utilities: Compressed air, nitrogen, process gases, pure water (WFI/PW/CW) 

  • Building Automation: BMS systems, SCADA, trending and alarming, energy management 

  • Laboratory Infrastructure: Fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, specialized ventilation 

Life Sciences Industry Knowledge 

  • cGMP, GDP, and GLP regulatory frameworks 

  • FDA, EMA, and MHRA inspection preparation 

  • Cleanroom design principles and classification systems 

  • Pharmaceutical water systems (USP, Ph.Eur standards) 

  • Cold chain management and temperature mapping 

  • Contamination control strategies 

Technology & Systems Proficiency 

  • CMMS: Maximo, ServiceNow, or similar computerized maintenance management systems 

  • BMS Platforms: Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or equivalent 

  • CAD Software: AutoCAD, Revit for system documentation and modifications 

  • Data Analytics: Power BI, Tableau for performance reporting and trend analysis 

  • Microsoft Office Suite: Advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting
