Company Description

Tembo is a new and innovative fintech startup, helping a new generation of home-owners get on the ladder faster and for less. We do this by helping families unlock money from existing property, so they can help the next generation buy a home. In our first two years of operations, we will help 1,500 customers buy a home who otherwise couldn’t have, and will save our users over £10 million in interest charges.

Beyond home ownership, we are on a mission to transform consumer lending through the power of family. Our aim is to enable each family to operate as their own private bank – lending and gifting money to help buy a home or car, pay for tuition fees or fund in-home care for older relatives.

Job Description

We are looking for a brilliant Rubyist to join us as Tech Lead to work alongside our hands-on CTO. You’ll be a pivotal part of the team with a valued opinion on everything delivering software products entails from process, architecture, all the way through to tooling. We have recently closed our seed round from some top tier investors and are now fully focused on realising our vision and delivering our product roadmap to users.

The Job

Life at Tembo promises to be both exciting and rewarding. You’ll be a valued voice on our small team (growing weekly!) and have the chance to have a huge impact over the future direction of the technical platform.

On a day to day basis you will be:

  • Developing features & functionality as we move beyond MVP
  • Championing best practices across the codebase
  • Identifying & resolving performance issues and bugs
  • Pivotal in the technical design & architecture of the platform
  • Helping shape development processes as we scale the team
  • Helping build an open, collaborative team culture
  • Coaching and supporting new (sometimes junior) developers

What we’re looking for

  • You’ve done lots if not all of these things before
  • You care about the code you write
  • You’re happy owning tickets all the way through to production
  • You’re focused on delivering value to users
  • You know the right way to do things, while still being pragmatic
  • You enjoy architecting systems - its down to us to lay the foundation we’ll build on for years to come
  • You’re happy operating in the problem space, not just knocking down tickets

Why should I apply?

  • £80k-£90k salary (based on experience)
  • Generous options package - be invested in the success of Tembo
  • 25 days holiday (+ bank holidays)
  • Work remotely or from our office in London
  • Flexible working hours (core hours/within London time +/-3)
  • Conference/training budget - we want to support your growth
  • High spec setup - laptop, monitor + other home office perks TBC
  • Once in a lifetime experience in a startup as it gears up for high growth

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Ruby on Rails experience
  • AWS experience a plus
