Job title: Engineer II

Location: London, Bristol or Edinburgh (including Hybrid)

Salary: £54,000 - £70,000

Kaluza reimagines energy to bring net-zero within everyone’s reach. The Kaluza Platform enables energy utilities to unlock the full value of a radically changing energy system and propel us to a future where renewable energy is sustainable, affordable and accessible for all.

From automating and simplifying core operations including billing to create a lower-cost, higher-engagement experience, to optimising energy usage across smart devices in the home, we turn tough challenges into win-win-win outcomes for customers, suppliers and the energy system.

We have a strong flexible, hybrid working ethos, we aim to be as flexible as possible to balance work with life. Teams can choose how and where to work, whether it’s from one of our lovely offices or from home or a mixture of both. Each team is different but we do like to get together monthly/quarterly as teams - if they are not at your local office we will cover the costs of travel and accommodation if necessary. As a company we come together annually for our conference and end of year celebrations!

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.

We use a diverse set of technologies to deliver our services. We don’t expect you to arrive with experience of all of them, but you can expect to learn about and get hands-on with many technologies, including Typescript, Scala, AWS, Terraform, Kafka and Datadog.

We believe our team members should have the possibility to be involved in all aspects of our delivery. From the outset, you will be involved in all team activities including development, design, support and testing to name a few. We do not expect you to have a wealth of knowledge in our domain as this is something you can build up over time with the help of our experienced engineering team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience developing backend applications in TypeScript.
  • Experience with database design and optimization (SQL or NoSQL).
  • Understanding of event-driven systems and message queues.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (ideally within AWS) and serverless architectures is a plus.
  • A passion for building high-quality software with a strong customer focus.
  • A proactive and problem-solving mindset, thriving in ambiguity.
  • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively and sharing knowledge.

If you’re passionate about building robust backend systems but perhaps don't have deep experience with TypeScript but keen on learning, we’d love to hear from you.
