Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Employment Tax Senior Manager to join our Reward and Mobility team on a 12 month fixed term contract as maternity cover. The role will oversee the global employment tax advisory, compliance and risk management for Wise, ensuring all obligations are met. With a high level of autonomy and responsibility, you’ll work across the People and Finance teams to align our overall tax strategy, reducing risks, costs and keeping us compliant.

About our Reward & Mobility team:

The Reward and Mobility team is part of the People Tribe at Wise. We are responsible for developing and implementing leading global reward policies, delivering our comprehensive stock offering, developing executive compensation policies, coordinating salary review processes and curating our benefits offering. We work on lots of cool and exciting projects to help our people deliver Wise’s mission. The nature of our work also means that we collaborate with a huge range of people across Wise and there are tons of opportunities to get involved in all sorts of different initiatives within our organisation.

Your mission:

  • Provide timely, accurate, practical and proactive employment tax advice to stakeholders. This includes People and Finance teams, as well as individual employees from junior staff to senior leadership team.

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to identify their needs and priorities, to enable you to work together to manage employment tax risks globally. Key stakeholders include your own team members whose focus is on other areas such as compensation, benefits, stock and global mobility; other areas of our People team; as well as across Finance, from Accounts Payable, Finance Business Partners to Corporate Tax.

  • Build relationships and work efficiently with external advisors, being fully aligned with the rest of Reward as well as Tax team, to manage employment tax exposures, be up to date on ongoing compliance obligations and understanding the impact as Wise develops its global footprint in other locations.

  • Support stakeholders in assessing tax risks arising from cross-border working arrangements, ranging from assignments, remote work to permanent transfers. Provide input to the global mobility framework, ensuring tax risks are correctly assessed and mitigated.

  • Own and review global employment tax returns to ensure accuracy and timely filings. This includes FBT, PSA, STBV, as well as global employee shares reporting. While some of these are outsourced and others prepared internally this will require the willingness and ability to get your hands dirty and dig into the details when required.

  • Determining tax provisions and communicating these to stakeholders, as well as determining and enacting action plans and process improvements.

  • Own risk judgments and alignment with Corporate Tax team, ensuring tax risks are appropriately captured and assessed (e.g. advising Head of Tax as well as Senior Accounting Officer on employment tax issues, risks and controls)

  • Be the overall relationship owner with our global tax and immigration advisor. This includes overseeing budgets, fees, managing service issues.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Build on and develop your technical knowledge and experience of different taxes across multiple jurisdictions in a truly global role.

  • Work autonomously to deliver impact by owning tax compliance and being in control of tax-sensitive data in an environment where fast paced change is the norm.

  • Expand your skills - you’ll be embedded in a Global Reward and Mobility team and will never be short of opportunities to develop other skills within the team.

About you:

  • You have solid experience and understanding of employment and global mobility taxes, having worked across multiple jurisdictions in the past.

  • ACA, CTA, ACCA, ATT, ADIT or equivalent tax / accounting qualifications

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and uncertain environment and be able to prioritise and create structure.

  • You are prepared to take ownership over complex new areas and solve problems with no or very limited guidance.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to independently manage complex projects from inception to completion.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with employees and management at all organisational levels.

Some extra skills that would be fantastic:

  • Have good experience working on reward and employee share schemes, as well as awareness of immigration and labour law considerations.

  • Have a good mix of experience in both employment tax and global mobility tax, and have good awareness of interactions between employer obligations vs personal tax implications.

  • Financial services experience with insights on compensation, benefits, international assignment policies, compliance and controls that may be unique to the FS sector.
