Embedded AI Engineer

AI is changing how organisations operate, but most businesses struggle to move beyond isolated AI tools and disconnected experiments.

At SPACE44, we deploy PIPE44, our AI operations platform, inside client environments and work alongside organisations to embed AI into the way they operate. We govern how AI agents access information, interact with business systems and deliver consistent, reliable outcomes across the organisation.

We don't deliver strategy decks or one-off implementations. We build, operate and continuously improve AI capability within our clients' businesses. We run the system, we own the outcomes, and we stay.

We're looking for a experienced software engineer who are excited about combining strong engineering fundamentals with modern AI-assisted development.

You may come from a Backend, Fullstack or platform engineering background and already use AI as part of your daily development workflow. You're comfortable working inside unfamiliar codebases, collaborating with engineering teams and delivering production-quality software from day one.

You'll work as a Software Engineer inside client development teams, using modern AI tooling to accelerate software delivery, build practical AI solutions and help engineering teams adopt AI-native ways of working.

You'll work directly with client engineering teams every day, but you won't own the commercial relationship, that remains with SPACE44's engagement leadership.

• Join client engineering teams as an embedded software engineer.

• Deliver production-quality software alongside client developers.

• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery while maintaining engineering quality.

• Build and customise AI agents that improve engineering workflows and software delivery.

• Introduce practical AI-enabled development practices through everyday collaboration with engineering teams.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering work and improve development efficiency.

• Share successful engineering patterns across client engagements and contribute directly to the ongoing evolution of PIPE44.

• Work closely with AI Solutions Architects to ensure technical delivery supports each client's broader AI transformation objectives.

• 8+ years building production software across backend, fullstack or platform engineering.

• Strong backend engineering experience in one or more modern programming languages.

• Experience designing and building modern web applications, APIs and distributed software systems.

• Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices and maintainable production code.

• Experience contributing across modern frontend technologies is advantageous.

• Comfortable learning new languages, frameworks and client technology stacks quickly.

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools.

• Working knowledge of LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents and agentic development approaches.

• Proficiency with Git version control.

• Track record of reliable, consistent delivery in remote engineering teams.

• Comfortable working inside established engineering processes while contributing improvements.

• Strong ownership mentality, you deliver what you commit to.

• Business-fluent English (written and verbal).
