About the Role:

Wiley’s Advanced journal portfolio is looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual to join the team as Editor-in-Chief (Advanced Fabrication). You will use your background in scientific research, knowledge of the publishing landscape, and strong communication and networking skills to lead the launch and strategic development of this new journal.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the journal's scientific direction, identity, and growth. You will build the profile within the global research community, attract high-quality authors and content, identify emerging and interdisciplinary areas of opportunity, and establish

The Editor-in-Chief will also contribute to the peer-review process and editorial decision-making for submitted manuscripts, ensuring adherence to best practices and the highest ethical standards in scientific publishing.

Job Responsibilities
  • Leverage your network, subject expertise, understanding of research trends, and desk research skills to drive content acquisition and submission growth.

  • Lead the launch and strategic development of Advanced Fabrication from both scientific and publishing perspectives.

  • Identify relevant emerging and interdisciplinary growth areas and opportunities for the journal.

  • Establish and maintain a strong network of scientists, including authors, peer reviewers, editorial board members, and wider community stakeholders.

  • Represent Wiley and the journal at conferences and through in-person and virtual outreach activities at universities, research institutes, and relevant scientific communities.

  • Contribute to the editorial evaluation, peer review, and decision-making process for submitted manuscripts.

  • Identify opportunities to attract high-quality submissions, develop commissioning strategies, and build visibility for the journal within relevant research communities.

  • Collaborate with your manager and colleagues to establish a team culture of trust, respect, collaboration, and high performance.

What We Are Looking For
  • A PhD in Materials Science/Technology/Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Nanotechnology & Nanoengineering, Surface Science & Engineering, or Polymer Science/Technology/Engineering.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a flexible and innovative approach to problems and a focus on defining and achieving outcomes.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting and achieve results through personal influence and engagement.

  • A self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible approach with outstanding organisational and time-management skills and an excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.

  • A strong understanding of scientific publishing, including commissioning and the peer-review process. Prior experience in the publishing industry is highly desired.

  • A keen interest in science communication and a strong desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.

  • Confidence to represent the journal at conferences and through institute visits, nurture existing contacts, and develop new networks, including a willingness to travel.

The range below represents Wiley's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base pay for this role at the time of posting roles in the United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, or Spain. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
