This position oversees the successful operation of the Propeller repair and overhaul workshop located in Brisbane, Queensland, ensuring customer satisfaction through the highest standards of avionics repairs, customer service, communication, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Reporting to the Operations Director and collaborating with peers and key stakeholders, the DOWTY Operations Manager will deliver industry-leading component maintenance services while ensuring planned operational output for the business. This role includes hands-on repair activities, product release, and quality assurance checks to maintain aviation standards.Job Description

Role Overview:

  • Lead your team to achieve operational, quality, and safety goals, managing 10–20 direct reports, including sub-leadership responsibilities.
  • Interface with a diverse customer base on highly technical DOWTY products and service models.
  • Drive continuous improvement on key operational metrics, including:
    • Safety Performance
    • Warranties & Quality escapes
    • On Time Delivery (OTD)
    • Turn around time (TAT)
    • Productivity
    • Work in progress (WIP)
    • Aging Work in progress (AWIP)
  • Champion the implementation of FLIGHT DECK (GE Aerospace's proprietary lean operating system) by collaborating with the Lean leader and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Lead lean improvement projects by analyzing operational data to deliver measurable improvements in business metrics.
  • Develop a safe, inclusive, and high-performing team to support a professional and profitable avionics workshop.
  • Act as the Responsible Manager for the workshop, ensuring quality output, participating in audits, implementing corrective actions, and fostering a positive quality culture.

Required Qualifications:

  • Full Working rights in Australia
  • Minimum Diploma level or equivalent in a related aviation field (e.g., Aeroskills, Aeronautical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Maintenance Management).
  • Experience in program or technical operational management.
  • Knowledge of aircraft regulations, standards, and frameworks.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and the ability to produce required documentation.
  • Extensive experience in performance management and training/development of direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical/propeller component maintenance and repair processes.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop, plan, and implement lean improvement projects.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security clearance if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Trainer/Assessor qualification.
  • Formal supervision qualification (Certificate IV or above).
  • Lean qualifications.
  • Completed or currently pursuing a degree in Business or a related field.
