Lead regional or mega-project Project Controls functions, overseeing cost, schedule, change control, forecasts, and compliance. Manage department heads, implement tools/systems, integrate cost and schedule with accounting, review bids/estimates, and ensure staff development and adherence to company policies and training requirements across Engineering, Procurement, and Construction phases.
Job Overview:
The Director Project Controls (ProjCtrl) role requires comprehensive Controls, management, and business expertise. They lead through subordinate managers of managers and execute functional business plans and contribute to the development of functional strategy. They direct the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems that have implications beyond their function. The Director Project Controls (ProjCtrl) applies broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance and influence customer relationships.
ResponsibilitiesKey Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide input to the project execution plan, baseline, and control budget on key project
- Ensure a functional cost breakdown structure and work breakdown structure are implemented on all projects
- Conduct periodic reviews of the forecast of major projects
- Ensure that the change control process is executed on all projects
- Coordinate and review the plans and schedules for key (new or existing) projects
- Provide oversight of execution strategy changes on key projects
- Review bids, check estimates, change orders, and cost-to-complete estimates for key projects
- Ensure Project Control deliverables are satisfied in a manner that aligns with established guidelines, policies, and procedures with regular audits to ensure compliance
- Provide oversight of ongoing staff development and training
- Responsible for providing the tools and systems necessary to manage effectively and proactively, control, and report on cost and schedule for concurrent projects throughout the organization or region
- Integrates cost and schedule data and reporting within the company’s accounting and management systems to facilitate meeting company performance and financial goals
- Manage and direct the functional Project Controls department heads and their respective staff for a specific region and/or business unit; alternatively, this position may also act as the overall head of Project Controls on a very large mega project, responsible for the management and oversight of all Project Controls activities and staff on the project
- Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Project Management
- Typically, 20+ years of directly relevant experience with cost and scheduling and/or Project Management in an Engineering & Construction environment
- Supervisory experience in leading project control functions working for an EPCI company
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working at a non-US construction site
- Large or Mega project experience in a minimum of one of the following sectors: Oil, Gas, LNG, Power
- Experience in Managing a Project Controls team in a lump-sum project environment
- Experience in Managing a Project Controls team relating to cost, scheduling, and progress in a project environment
- Experience across all phases of a project Engineering, Procurement, and Construction
- Experience in contracts and contract administration including its assessment and implementation at each phase of the project
- Solid knowledge of project controls systems within oil and gas industry construction
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of Primavera
