CFA Institute is seeking a Director, Operational Risk to strengthen and embed operational risk capability across our global organisation. Reporting to the Global Head, Enterprise Risk Management, this newly created role sits within the Enterprise Risk Management function and serves as the second-in-command, with significant visibility and engagement across executive leadership.
You will play a central role in ensuring operational risk is integrated early into strategic, investment, and transformation decisions. This is a commercially focused, executive-facing role within a mature public company governance environment, designed for someone who sees risk as a strategic enabler.
What You’ll Do
Design, embed, and continuously enhance the operational risk processes, including proactive horizon scanning and emerging risk assessment
Lead second line oversight of third-party, vendor, fraud, finance, and operational control risks across the organisation
Partner with Cybersecurity to quantify enterprise cyber risk using scenario analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and stress testing
Deliver advanced quantitative risk modelling and executive-ready analytics to inform strategic and investment decision-making
Oversee and optimise the global corporate insurance programme, including exposure assessment and broker and carrier negotiation
Develop high-impact reporting and dashboards for executive and Board-level discussions
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders including CIO, COO, CFO, and CLCO, influencing without formal authority
Serve as proxy for the Head of ERM in Operational Risk Committee and leadership forums when required
What We’re Looking For
10+ years’ progressive experience in Operational or Enterprise Risk within large commercial, non-financial services environments such as retail, manufacturing, construction, or professional services
Current Director, or Senior Manager within a publicly listed or similarly structured organisation, with exposure to executive and Board governance
Proven experience embedding operational risk frameworks across multiple domains, including vendor risk, fraud, controls, and cyber collaboration
Strong quantitative capability, with experience applying probability-based modelling and scenario analysis in commercial decision-making contexts
Experience overseeing or partnering on corporate insurance programme structuring and renewal negotiations
Executive presence and credibility, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders through clear, data-driven insight
Commercially pragmatic approach, comfortable balancing agility with control discipline
IRM certification or equivalent global risk accreditation preferred

In compliance with wage transparency laws in many of the jurisdictions in which we recruit, we provide the following information regarding compensation for this position: Expected salary range: £100,000-£120,000 per year. All salary ranges are subject to adjustment based on experience, education, location and other factors relevant to the position. Additional benefits include eligibility for an annual incentive bonus, a 12% employer contribution to a 401(k)/pension plan, and a comprehensive medical benefits package.
