We’re on a mission to make migration easy.
We started building Marshmallow in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown from 3 to 700+ people, gained unicorn status, raised ~£140M over three funding rounds, turned profitable, insured millions of drivers and lent millions in car loans.
But we’re only just getting started. Our goal is to become one of the largest financial services providers in the world. Over the next 10 years we’ll grow exponentially, not only by scaling our existing products, but also by building new ones.
To achieve our goals we need incredibly ambitious, commercially driven people who never settle for ‘good enough’. Marshmallowers are hungry for autonomy and ownership, and would rather improve than coast. Everyone raises standards and has an impact, with a focus on collective success over self-interest.
We’ve created an environment where curious, tenacious people win and grow together. If that sounds motivating, this could be the place for you.
The Role
This is a senior leadership position at the heart of Marshmallow’s Group Finance function, reporting directly to the Group CFO. This is emphatically a Group role — you will own FP&A not just at consolidated level but across each of our regulated entities: MIL (Gibraltar-regulated insurer), MFSL (FCA regulated broker), and MCSL (consumer credit lender), as well as all further group entities as the business grows. Each regulated entity has its own Board, its own financial profile, and its own reporting cadence, and you will be the person who makes sure each one has the financial insight and support it needs — in addition to the Group Board.
Beyond the Group consolidation, you will act as the primary finance business partner to each entity’s leadership, ensuring that Board KPI packs, budget sign-offs, and performance reporting are delivered to a consistently high standard — and that the Group CFO always has a clear, accurate picture of how every part of the business is performing.
In addition, you will build Marshmallow’s Procurement function from the ground up — designing the framework, governance, and tooling that will support our next phase of growth. As you establish yourself in the role, there is a deliberate and supported path to take on treasury and investments responsibilities, making this one of the broadest and most developmental Director-level finance roles available in the UK insurtech market.
We are also at the point of launching Planful as our Group FP&A platform, and we want someone who arrives energised by that — ready to shape how it embeds across the business and what it unlocks for the finance team.
The Group CFO has a clear vision for the Finance function: to build something genuinely innovative and AI-led — a function that uses technology not as a support tool but as a core part of how we plan, analyse, and make decisions. We are looking for someone who shares that ambition, who thinks actively about what AI can do for FP&A, and who has the drive and practical capability to deliver the change needed to make that vision a reality.
Key Responsibilities
FP&A Leadership — Group & Entity Level
Own the Group’s annual budget and rolling forecast cycles, building plans at both Group consolidated level and for each regulated entity: MIL, MFSL, and MCSL
Serve as the primary FP&A business partner to each entity’s leadership team, ensuring every regulatory Board has the financial insight and KPI reporting it requires
Design and maintain a suite of entity-level and Group Board KPI packs, tailored to the regulatory context, strategic priorities, and audience of each entity
Lead monthly and quarterly financial performance reviews, providing clear, actionable commentary to the Group CFO and SLT
Build and maintain financial models supporting strategic planning, scenario analysis, and capital allocation across the Group
Partner with business unit GMs and functional leads to translate commercial activity into financial outcomes at both entity and Group level
Own the production of Group and entity Board financial reporting packs — and present them with confidence to senior stakeholders and Board members
Planful Launch & Embedment
Join at the point of Planful’s go-live and take ownership of its adoption and continuous development across the Group
Drive best practice in the platform, working with Finance and the wider business to ensure it delivers on its potential
Act as the internal champion for modern, AI-assisted FP&A workflows and tooling
Procurement — Build from Scratch
Design and stand up Marshmallow’s Procurement function, defining policy, governance, supplier management frameworks, and tooling
Embed procurement rigour across the Group without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
Drive commercial value through smarter vendor relationships and spend visibility
Treasury & Investments — Growth Path
As you establish yourself, take on ownership of treasury operations and investment management activity
Support the CFO in managing the Group’s balance sheet, liquidity position, and returns on invested assets
Develop a treasury governance framework appropriate for a regulated, fast-scaling financial services group
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
Lead, develop, and grow the FP&A team, setting high standards and building long-term capability
Act as a genuine thought partner to the CFO and co-CEOs on financial strategy and operational performance
Operate with autonomy and confidence — you will be trusted to drive your agenda without being micromanaged
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
Qualified accountant — ACA or ACCA strongly preferred
Significant FP&A experience in a high-growth, complex business; experience working across multiple regulated entities or subsidiaries is a strong advantage, as is an insurance or financial services background
Comfortable operating at both Group and entity level — you understand that each Board has different needs and you can adapt your output accordingly
Proven ability to build budgets and forecasts at entity, product, and Group consolidated level
Experience designing and delivering Board KPI frameworks across multiple legal entities with different regulatory and commercial contexts
Hands-on experience with Planful and NetSuite; you know how to get the best from both platforms
Track record of producing and presenting Board and SLT-level financial decks — you are articulate, confident, and distil complexity into clarity
Experience standing up or significantly transforming a finance or operational function
Who You Are
Curious and ambitious — you are never satisfied with good enough and you ask the questions others don’t think to ask
AI-forward — you think actively about how technology and AI can transform FP&A, and you bring that vision to your team
Autonomous but collaborative — you are comfortable leading independently, and you know when to bring people with you
Adaptable — you enjoy pivoting when the business changes direction and treat transformation as an opportunity
Values-driven — direct, thoughtful, ambitious, and genuinely committed to doing right by customers and colleagues
Bonus scheme designed to reward high performance
Private medical insurance with Vitality, mental health support with Oliva
Personal learning budget and 2 dedicated L&D days a year
Monthly flexible benefits budget to spend as you choose
25 days holiday plus bank holidays
