Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world’s challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.

Our Façade Access practice provides consulting services to architects, building owners, and developers focused on safe, efficient, and code-compliant access to the building envelope throughout the full building lifecycle. Our expertise helps solve complex access challenges, reduces operational risk, improves long-term maintainability, and preserves architectural intent. We offer services spanning early design strategy through construction and operations, including access planning, performance-based system design, procurement support, and commissioning. In an industry governed by safety, regulation, and real-world usability, innovation comes with the territory. Many of the façade access solutions we design are highly customized, integrating specialized equipment, structural interfaces, and operational strategies tailored to each building’s geometry and use.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Director specializing in façade access to join our dynamic team in London. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help lead and grow TT’s façade access consulting practice globally, contributing to both new construction projects and the enhancement of existing façade access systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in façade access, building maintenance, and fall protection, along with the leadership mindset required to expand our market presence and reputation.

In this position, you will lead and participate in the design consulting process for new construction projects, providing expert guidance on façade access systems to ensure they meet ambitious and sustainable architectural goals. You will serve as a technical and strategic leader, shaping project approaches and representing TT’s façade access expertise to clients and collaborators.

Your responsibilities will include delivering comprehensive façade access consulting services, such as performance-based design through detailed technical narratives, drawings, and specifications. Additionally, you will play a key role in the bidding process and negotiations to select qualified equipment providers, ensuring optimal technical, commercial, and operational outcomes. Overseeing equipment installation will also be a core responsibility, including engineering reviews, factory visits, testing oversight, site surveys, and commissioning.

Furthermore, you will actively contribute to the growth of the façade access practice by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and helping define strategies that position TT as the leading façade access consultancy worldwide. You will identify potential enhancements to current systems and processes, develop business cases for their implementation, and lead the integration of these improvements in collaboration with other experts and stakeholders.

This position offers significant opportunities for career growth and advancement, allowing you to lead high-profile projects, mentor teams, influence the direction of the practice, and help build the global façade access brand at Thornton Tomasetti.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple façade access consulting projects simultaneously and act as a senior point of contact for clients.

  • Lead the design of complete façade access systems for new and existing buildings and communicate them through narratives, drawings, and specifications.

  • Provide technical leadership and quality oversight across façade access projects.

  • Conduct research on industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving best practices in façade access.

  • Drive business development by cultivating client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and helping position TT as the go-to façade access consultant.

  • Develop proposals and qualifications and support strategic pursuits for new work.

  • Manage and contribute to monthly financial performance metrics including revenue, profitability, projections, backlog, and pipeline.

  • Supervise, mentor, and help develop other team members, supporting long-term practice growth.

  • Liaise between clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and internal teams regarding façade access operations.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering

  • Extensive façade access experience in new and existing construction

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit preferred
