500M+ downloads. 80M+ monthly users. A decade of building – and we’re still accelerating.

Flo is the world’s #1 health & fitness app worldwide on a mission to build a better future for female health. Backed by a $200M investment led by General Atlantic, we became the first product of our kind to reach a $1B valuation in 2024 – and we’re not slowing down.

With 7M paid subscribers and the highest-rated experience in the App Store’s health category, we’ve spent 10 years earning trust at scale. Now, we’re building the next generation of digital health – AI-powered, privacy-first, clinically backed – to help our users know their body better.

The job

We are looking for a Director of Engineering who is driven by the challenge of scale and the purpose of our platform. You will lead the engineering teams responsible for building innovative, product features that empower women to make informed decisions about their bodies every single day. If you want to use your technical leadership to close the gender health gap and deliver a world-class consumer product that truly matters, this is your opportunity to lead the way.

Your responsibilities

Product Engineering & Delivery

  • Define the technical roadmap for our core product areas. You’ll ensure our mobile and backend architecture supports rapid feature iteration and a flawless user experience.
  • Champion a culture of product engineering excellence. You’ll set the standards for clean code, smart testing, and building maintainable features.
  • Oversee the technical design of complex product features, ensuring seamless integration across our platforms to deliver a highly responsive and intuitive app experience.
  • You’ll define what "quality" looks like from the user's perspective, setting the metrics for app performance, smooth transitions, and a crash-free experience.

Strategy & Collaboration

  • Work side-by-side with Product leaders to turn big ideas into technical realities. You’ll help figure out the "how" behind the "what."
  • You’ll explain technical wins, risks, and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders in a way that is clear, honest, and compelling.
  • You’ll make high-level decisions that balance technical coolness with business needs and budget realities.

People & Culture

  • You’ll coach and mentor our Engineering Managers, helping them become the supportive, effective leaders their teams need.
  • You’ll drive hiring strategy to attract top-tier talent and help scale our organization.
  • Help your team grow by setting clear goals and development paths. You’ll ensure everyone knows how to get to the next level in their career.
Your experience

Must haves:

  • You have a solid background in software architecture, specifically for large-scale, consumer-facing mobile and web applications.
  • You have a track record of managing other managers or overseeing multiple product-engineering teams.
  • You know how to take a complex product vision, break it down, and get user-facing features across the finish line on time.
  • You have experience driving agile delivery and release management, ensuring new features roll out smoothly to millions of users without a hitch.
  • You play well with others. You have a knack for negotiating and collaborating deeply with peers in Product, Design, and the C-Suite.
  • You have experience building diverse, high-performing teams that succeed.

The salary for the role in the UK starts from GBP 160,000 gross (the final salary depends on the skills and experience of the chosen candidate)

How we work

We’re a mission-led, product-driven team. We move fast, stay focused and take ownership – from brief to build to impact. Debate is encouraged. Decisions are shared. We care about craft, ship with purpose, and always raise the bar.

You’ll be working with people who take their work seriously, not themselves. It takes commitment, resilience, and the drive to keep going when things get tough. Because better health outcomes are worth it.

What you'll get

We support impact with meaningful reward. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Competitive salary and annual reviews
  • Opportunity to participate in Flo’s performance incentive scheme
  • Paid holiday, sick leave, and female health leave
  • Enhanced parental leave and pay for maternity, paternity, same-sex and adoptive parents
  • Accelerated professional growth through world-changing work and learning support
  • In-person collaboration and work in a hybrid model, with 3 days per week spent in the office
  • 5-week fully paid sabbatical at 5-year Floversary
  • Flo Premium for friends & family, plus more health, pension and wellbeing perks

Diversity, equity and inclusion

Our strength is in our differences. At Flo, hiring is based on merit, skill and what you bring to the role – nothing else. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, communities and identities. Read our privacy notice for job applicants.
