The role of Operational Risk & Controls Utility at LSEG is to drive safe, sound and secure practices that manage the right risks, protect margins, scale with growth, delight customers and strengthen trust in our products and services.
With Three Powerful Utilities at the heart of the function, Operational Risk & Controls mitigates risks associated with Financial Crime, Operational Resilience, Business Continuity and Third Party engagements, as well as ensuring the right Controls are designed, built and operated within the supporting processes. The function plays a critical role in supporting the Group’s strategic objectives.
The Director of Operational Risk & Controls Utility Business Management is a senior leadership role accountable for driving strategic planning, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the function. This role directly supports the Group Head of Operational Risk & Controls Utility and collaborates extensively across the organisation.
This role will also serve as the Operational Risk & Controls Utility lead for all M&A activity, acting as the primary point of accountability for integration planning, due‑diligence engagement, and post‑close transition activities. This includes assessing colleague‑impacting risks and opportunities early in the deal cycle, coordinating requirements across Operational Risk & Controls functions (Anti-Financial Crime Utility, Risk & Resilience Utility, Controls Utility and Business Controls Office), and ensure the services are represented in the enterprise-wide integration strategy.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Management
Lead the strategic planning process for Operational Risk & Controls Utility, developing long‑term plans, functional objectives, and critical performance metrics.
Serve as a senior advisor to the Group Head of Operational Risk & Controls Utility, shaping strategy, priorities, and decision‑making.
Drive the ongoing evolution of the Operational Risk & Controls Utility operating model, ensuring efficiency, scalability, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.
Own Operational Risk & Controls Utility communications strategy, ensuring clear, timely, and effective messaging.
Oversee Operational Risk & Controls Utility Opex budgeting, financial planning, and forecasting in partnership with Finance and People Business Partners.
Provide high‑quality financial analysis and insights to support leadership decisions and ensure budget adherence.
Lead business performance reporting, KPI frameworks, and dashboards for Executive and senior stakeholder consumption in partnership with the COO Performance Office.
Lead development of senior‑level communication materials, strategic narrative, and reporting for ExCo and senior leadership.
Partner with People Function business partners on talent planning, development, retention, and succession.
Where applicable, represent Operational Risk & Controls Utility across LSEG forums, ensuring alignment with Group‑wide initiatives and priorities.
Act as the senior lead for people‑related initiatives across the function, including colleague engagement, volunteering, and culture‑building.
Maintain strong relationships with key collaborators across LSEG—including Engineering, Product-led, COO Office, and Business Partners.
Oversee Operational Risk & Controls Utility risk and controls framework to ensure full adherence and operational compliance.
Manage delivery of risk‑related projects, audits, and remediation plans.
Ensure consistency and resilience across all Operational Risk & Controls Utility processes.
Serve as the Operational Risk & Controls Utility lead for all M&A activity, ensuring integration planning, due‑diligence support, and functional readiness.
What you’ll bring
Extensive experience in business management, strategy, or operations leadership roles in complex, global organisations.
Proven ability to lead through influence at senior levels, with strong executive presence and communication skills.
Deep experience in organising and driving cross‑functional delivery programmes.
Experience in content governance, knowledge management, or digital service design (preferred).
Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing Opex budgets.
Analytical mindset, able to interpret data to drive decisions and continuous improvement.
Demonstrated ability to simplify complexity, challenge constructively, and propose strategic solutions.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Track record of building collaborative, high‑performing teams.
