The Desktop Administrator is responsible for maintaining and managing distributed desktop and laptop systems, along with related software. This includes tasks such as installation, configuration, preventive maintenance, daily operations, and resolving technical issues to ensure smooth and secure end-user computing experiences.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide support for desktop and laptop systems, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist users with technical issues and general IT inquiries.
  • Manage system backups, recovery processes, and software installations.
  • Administer Microsoft Exchange mailboxes, Active Directory, DNS, and print subsystems.
  • Install and maintain server applications and hardware, including racks and communication gear.
  • Diagnose and repair hardware issues (e.g., hard drives, monitors, printers) at end-user workstations.
  • Maintain hardware inventory and ensure software license compliance.
  • Support desktop standards, including OS, antivirus, disk imaging, and encryption tools.
  • Keep systems updated with current BIOS/firmware, security patches, and software versions.
  • Contribute to process improvements through automation and documentation.
  • Assist with IT projects and collaborate with system administrators on complex technical tasks.

Education and Experience:

  • High-school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) with two to four years of related desktop administration experience. 

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic knowledge of Microsoft® Word and Access and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Excel, Outlook, Internet navigation and research, systems administration tools, and scripting and automation tools.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • User Operating Systems, Microsoft® Exchange, and Active Directory certifications preferred.
