Senior Software Engineer (Design Systems)
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Design Systems) to join our Web Enablement team and own our design system. You will be responsible for improving upon the existing foundations and driving the direction of the product. The system supports multiple brands and is a core dependency for our customer-facing web application with plans to power our mobile application and other sites. You will consider their requirements and tailor solutions that work across all devices. The design system allows our smaller domain-focused teams to create consistent, reliable and performant experiences. You will be constantly iterating the product and delivering code every week. You will be responsible for communicating your improvements and assisting with changes required for integration. The team is also responsible for the tools, libraries, infrastructure and best practices that allow our engineers to craft the best user experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Your day-to-day will involve maintaining and developing features for our system, written in React/Typescript
- You will collaborate with designers to ensure consistency between Figma and Storybook such that both designers and developers are aligned
- You will be the point of contact for new/existing engineers who wish to contribute or use the design system
- You will champion best practices, writing clean, modular and testable code ensuring that documentation is concise with variations and examples properly presented
- You will continuously improve and optimise the design system; keeping aware of improvements in the technical space and replacing legacy code with newer functionality once adoption has reached a significant level
- Our ideal Senior Software Engineer is collaborative and skilled in React, React-Native, NX, StoryBook
- Able to work independently - you will be the sole full-time engineer on the team and will be supported by a collection of engineers who serve as core contributors to the product
- You will need experience working with design systems for an organisation and how to scale them
- You must be hands-on in solving problems and have a proven ability to solve complicated technical problems, analyse trades off and be able to communicate this to stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
