About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join a highly technical group responsible for the design and construction of our physical office spaces. This position sits within our Engineering group, a team of creative problem-solvers who design with the intention to optimise the work experience at Jane Street. Our team operates with little red tape and our project goals often require new ideas and unique solutions — that’s where you come in.

Our goal is to successfully manage, design and deliver highly reliable trading floors, colocation facilities, data centres, amenity spaces and food service areas for our business. As we expand our global offices, you’ll work and collaborate with many internal departments and external vendors to execute our vision, while factoring in connectivity with our satellite offices and colocation facilities around the world.

We’re looking for someone with a breadth of experience in thoughtfully designing mission-critical spaces and structures. Regardless of your specific engineering discipline, whether that be electrical, mechanical or building services engineering, we encourage you to apply. We’re more focused on finding someone who’s able to convey their strong vision and execute at an exceptional level than specific skills or background. This is an exciting time of growth and evolution for our company; your work and designs will be foundational to our firm’s continued success.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience designing and constructing mission-critical data centres, trading floors or similar 24/7 facilities with projects ranging from £500K to £50 million
  • Professionally trained in electrical, mechanical or building services engineering
  • Demonstrable experience managing vendors, consultants, and contractors
  • Knowledgeable about MEP disciplines, including plant infrastructure, CRACs, UPSs, office HVAC, generators, fire prevention, and building management systems
  • Experience with PlanGrid, Autodesk Build, BIM Collaborate, Bluebeam, MS Project, AutoCAD, REVIT/BIM, and MS Office preferred
  • Comfortable working with technical people in an IT-centric environment and learning new software and control systems
  • Has a working knowledge of IT systems, data centre computer hardware, and trading desktop hardware
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of colleagues across several business areas, from engineers to interior designers, and everyone between
  • Creative, collaborative, and enthusiastic team player who is eager to learn and take initiative
  • Prioritises tasks effectively and stays organised; can balance assigned work required for our constantly evolving environments
  • Willing to be part of an on-call rotation for nights and weekends to quickly respond to critical system emergencies
  • Fluency in English required
