At Gousto, our data teams are central to our ability to deliver an amazing customer experience. We do this by delivering change through cross functional squads grouped into four tribes, each focussed on a different part of the customer journey. Our band B-D data scientists are each embedded in a squad on a quarterly basis, working alongside product management, software engineering, and other functions. The specific squad for each quarter is determined based on business priorities.
You will be part of the Activate tribe which aims to understand the behaviour of our customers, from what promotional offers are most suitable to each customer to when they might be looking to pause their subscription. Data science plays a key role in achieving this. You will work as part of one of the Rockets, Beetroots or Tomatoes squads to build and maintain machine learning and reinforcement learning models that improve the customer experience across all stages of the customer journey. You will interact with the wider marketing and data teams to understand where the biggest challenges are in order to inform your priorities.
We believe that if you build something, you should run it too. This means that our data scientists take ownership over the entire process from ideation to deployment, as well as automation and maintenance. Knowing our data products inside-out allows us to keep learning and improving.
We have big plans for the future, hence we are looking for creative thinkers to help drive the business and disrupt the online grocery market by leveraging machine learning and optimisation. You will work with amazing colleagues and look forward to solving challenging problems that will have a significant impact on the product and our customers. You’ll recognise when to meet complex problems with advanced solutions or when a simple approach cuts through all complexity. Core responsibilities
- Developing machine learning and reinforcement learning models to predict customer behaviour
- Working with business users, data scientists and analysts in the Activate tribe to help them make the best use of the models you have developed.
- Reporting back to the wider team on the status of our models to keep them updated on progress and to escalate any blockers
- Working with the wider team to prioritise which models to build next
- Helping to educate the wider team, including senior stakeholders on the value of data science within Activate
Who you are
- You have experience building machine learning models, preferably in the customer acquisition or retention domains (for example: personalisation, churn, campaign optimisation, lifetime value modelling, price optimisation).
- You are excited about understanding our customers and building products to address their needs.
- You have high commercial awareness and are able to deliver value iteratively through quantified experiments. You are experienced in managing and measuring data product performance.
- You are experienced in using Python (and relevant libraries) and comfortable upskilling yourself in our current data science toolkit (DataBricks).
- You have experience communicating highly technical work to non-technical stakeholders. You distil complex problems into simple pieces, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- You thrive in a fast-paced, high growth, technology focussed organisation.
Nice to haves
- You are comfortable productionising data science algorithms with either AWS or Databricks
- You have experience with reinforcement learning in a practical setting
- You have experience using genAI/Agentic AI both for individual productivity and also applied to customer facing opportunities
