Job DescriptionLocation: London, Hybrid
We’re looking for a Data Science Manager to lead and grow a high-impact team across our Activate (acquisition and retention) and Choice (menu) tribes. You’ll line manage a fantastic team of data scientists, working in embedded, cross-functional squads, and partner closely with a Principal Data Scientist spanning both tribes. Your role is to set clear expectations for ways of working, support individual career development, and create an environment where high-quality data science products are delivered consistently and at pace. Within Activate, you’ll be part of the tribe management team, shaping strategy, planning and prioritising quarterly work, and driving delivery alongside technical and non-technical leaders.
Beyond the tribes, you’ll be a key leader within the Data Science function, acting as a thought partner to the Head of Data Science and helping to define the team’s strategic direction. You’ll lead major initiatives, strengthen the team’s capabilities across skills, tooling, data infrastructure and collaboration, and raise the bar for stakeholder engagement across the business. This role suits a highly motivated leader with strong experience in machine learning and reinforcement learning, who is comfortable working with a broad range of stakeholders and has a proven track record of leading high-performing teams to deliver meaningful impact in acquisition, retention, and customer outcomes.
Core responsibilities
- Lead data science delivery across the Activate tribe, identifying opportunities to enhance existing products, launch new data science solutions, and expand into new problem spaces.
- Drive impact through your team rather than hands-on IC work, while providing technical mentorship and career coaching to help individuals thrive.
- Be the voice of Data Science within the Activate tribe leadership team.
- Work closely with product, engineering, analytics and other partners to shape strategy, influence planning, and ensure data science is central to key decisions.
- Champion data science opportunities at senior forums, including operating boards where required.
- Play a key role in the leadership of the Data Science function, working alongside the Head of Data Science, Managers and Principals to shape the team’s future.
- Raise the bar across skills, tooling, data infrastructure, collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead the delivery of high-impact strategic initiatives.
- Help build the future of the team by leading hiring and onboarding across Activate and Choice.
Who you are
- Deep data science expertise, with a strong focus on machine learning models and their application in production.
- Solid domain knowledge in acquisition and retention, and an understanding of where data science can drive customer and commercial impact.
- Working knowledge of deep learning and reinforcement learning, with an emphasis on how these approaches can be applied rather than deep technical implementation.
- Awareness of GenAI and agentic AI, and how these technologies can enhance team productivity and improve customer-facing experiences.
- Experience defining data science product strategies and roadmaps, with the ability to plan capacity and ensure delivery.
- Proven experience leading a team of data scientists and supporting their growth and development.
- Comfortable working in a cross-functional environment, partnering closely with product, engineering, analytics and other stakeholders.
- Confident influencing stakeholders and driving strategy at squad level.
- Experience hiring and onboarding data science talent and helping to build high-performing teams.
