We are now looking for a Data Governance and Enablement Manager to join our Data team. You’ll manage and mature a data governance and enablement team to create fit for purpose data solutions and AI solutions, supporting internal data consumers and giving access to trusted and easy to understand data. 

 

Guardian News and Media is proud to be a London Living wage employer. The minimum salary for any full-time role within the organisation is £30,000 per annum. Salary ranges are dependent on skills and experience.


About the role

  • Manage and develop the data governance and enablement function
  • Accountable for designing and rolling out data governance and data enablement & literacy training to cohorts
  • Provide the direction and oversight for maturing data governance capabilities across data domains with standards, data improvement plans, working groups, assigned owners and stewards, business term definition and metric reporting 
  • Manage and grow the usage of our data catalogue to enable data users and AI tools to find and understand the data required
  • Identify, create, and maintain data management policies, standards and guidance to support the data governance capability 
  • Implement policies and standards into the data function to support data management processes including onboarding new data, changing data, sharing data, deleting data, and data retention, data access
  • Work closely with stakeholders to align roadmaps and collaborate on embedding data governance and enablement
  • Lead & support Data Working Groups with and decisions or issues they are concerned with

About you

  • Proven experience in embedding data governance and data literacy and/or data culture into an organisation 
  • Deep understanding of industry-standard frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, COBIT) to build end-to-end data governance from scratch
  • Practical knowledge of data management processes, including data onboarding, data lineage, data retention/deletion, and data access control
  • Able to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure and report on the progress/maturity of data governance and enablement activities.
  • Expertise in implementing and driving the adoption of enterprise data catalogues  (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Atlan or open-source equivalents) to ensure data is searchable and understandable
  • Able to identify gaps in as-is process, highlight changes and design and implement to-be processes
  • Knowledge of how to write, audit, and enforce data policies and standards that comply with compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
  • Ability to design, roll out, and measure the success of data training programs tailored to different cohorts

We operate in a hybrid environment working 3 days a week from our offices in Kings Cross and 2 days a week remotely.

You'll have 30 days of annual leave per year (plus bank holidays) with the option to purchase an additional 5 days. Our pension scheme is generous; if you contribute 5% then we will contribute 8-12% (depending on your age).
