About Skyscanner

Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges ✈️ That's why we've spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 160 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole “47 browser tabs open” phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily 💻

Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that's striving to become the planet's go-to travel hack accessible for all 🌍

Our vision? To be the world's number one travel ally. (Ambitious? 💪 Yes, but, hey, that's what got us here)

About the role
Hybrid

You’ll step into a pivotal Data Engineering Manager role within our Audience Experience tribe, helping power how millions of travellers discover, engage with and return to Skyscanner. Sitting within Paid Marketing & Marketing Technology, you’ll lead the team behind the data that drives smarter marketing investment and fuels global audience growth.

This is where people leadership meets deep data engineering expertise. You’ll be just as comfortable shaping a high-performing, happy team as you are thinking through architecture and platform evolution.

Your work won’t sit on the sidelines — it will directly influence how we invest across paid channels like search, social and programmatic. In other words, not just dashboards… but decisions.

Along the way, you’ll help evolve our data platform, improving scalability, observability and governance within a modern cloud environment. You’ll partner across Marketing, Product, Analytics and Data Science to turn complex data into clear, actionable direction.

And perhaps most importantly, this is a genuine opportunity to lead, grow and elevate a team — setting the bar for both technical excellence and a culture people want to be part of.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading a high-performing team: You’ll manage, coach and grow a team of data engineers, creating an environment where people do their best work (and enjoy it too).

  • Building scalable data pipelines: You’ll oversee the design and operation of robust pipelines across paid marketing and affiliate channels.

  • Setting technical direction: You’ll define standards across CI/CD, testing, documentation and cost optimisation — raising the bar as you go.

  • Partnering cross-functionally: You’ll work closely with Marketing, Product, Analytics and Marketing Technology to shape and deliver the data roadmap.

  • Improving data quality & observability: You’ll champion reliable, trustworthy datasets with strong SLAs and clear monitoring.

  • Balancing speed and sustainability: You’ll navigate the trade-offs between rapid delivery and long-term platform health, governance and privacy.

  • Enabling smarter decisions: You’ll ensure data flows seamlessly from raw signals to decision-ready insights, including feeding optimisation signals back to platforms like Google.

About you

  • Experienced people leader: You’ve led and developed engineering teams, ideally through periods of growth or transformation.

  • Data engineering expert: You bring strong experience building and scaling data platforms, pipelines and architectures in cloud environments.

  • Commercially minded: You understand how data translates into business impact — especially within marketing or growth domains.

  • Strategic thinker: You’re comfortable shaping roadmaps and influencing senior stakeholders across disciplines.

  • Technically credible: You can dive deep when needed, guiding decisions on tooling, architecture and best practices.

  • Collaborative by nature: You thrive working across teams, turning complex requirements into shared outcomes.

  • Curious and improvement-driven: You’re always looking for better ways to build, lead and scale — and you bring others along with you.
