Data Engineer – Private Equity

About Us

Lantern isn’t your typical fintech start-up. We’re a pioneering Private Equity data intelligence platform with a bold mission: to unleash the power of private markets data as a force for good.

Through our innovative SaaS platform and a passionate team, we’re disrupting the private markets industry by delivering powerful, trusted insights to GPs, LPs, and Fund Administrators.

Role Overview

As a Data Engineer – Private Equity, you will join a growing data team with ambitious plans to power private market data intelligence at scale. Reporting to the Head of Data, you’ll work closely with Data Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Engineering teams, becoming a key contributor to Lantern’s growth journey.

This role sits at the intersection of data engineering and private equity domain expertise, with ownership over transformation logic that powers our core data models and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and own the data transformation layer that underpins Lantern’s core business models.
  • Deliver clean, trusted, and well-documented datasets to support analytics, reporting, and product features.
  • Apply private equity and accounting expertise to ensure financial data is accurate, consistent, and scalable.
  • Implement data quality testing, anomaly detection, and lineage tracking to improve data reliability.
  • Partner with Data Engineers to integrate new data sources and design scalable pipelines across cloud platforms.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define KPIs and translate financial logic into robust, reliable metrics.
  • Maintain and continuously improve existing data pipelines and transformation logic.
  • Contribute to the team’s domain knowledge, helping raise the bar for financial data understanding across Lantern.

Our Data Stack

  • Python – supporting EL services and data tooling
  • PostgreSQL – application databases
  • Snowflake – analytical data platform
  • dbt Core – transformation and modelling layer
  • Azure – infrastructure and compute (including Databricks)
  • Git & CI/CD pipelines

What You Bring

Required

  • Strong understanding of financial data structures (transactions, balances, reconciliations).
  • Experience with private equity data and/or fund accounting.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and familiarity with Python.
  • Ability to translate finance and business requirements into technical data solutions.
  • 2–4 years’ experience working with financial data, analytics engineering, or data engineering.
  • Solid understanding of data quality, testing, and observability concepts.
  • Experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake, or MySQL.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

Nice to Have

  • Qualified Fund Accountant (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with dbt and analytics engineering best practices.
  • Experience building or maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake performance and modelling patterns.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata, or lineage tooling.
  • Familiarity with cloud data services, preferably Azure.

What We Value

  • Humble – aware of your strengths and open about your learning areas.
  • Growth-minded – committed to improving your skills and raising the bar as a team.
  • Detail-oriented – accuracy matters, especially with financial data.

What You’ll Get

  • A fast-paced, dynamic environment in an ambitious private markets start-up.
  • Autonomy and ownership, with strong support for growth and development.
  • A competitive compensation package, including discretionary bonus, private healthcare, wellness scheme, pension, and 27 days annual leave.
  • A flexible, hybrid working model focused on outcomes over hours.
  • A commitment to Diversity & Inclusion — Lantern is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to building an inclusive workplace.
