Mintel is looking for a Data Analytics Manager to lead a small team of data analysts and BI developers within the supportive and collaborative data function of our Engineering Department. Mintel is a leader in marketing intelligence where data and predictive analytics plays a crucial role in the Products, Insights and Advisory services we offer. As the Data Analytics Manager, you will play a key role in helping Mintel to effectively use its BI tools such as Looker and Sigma, along with analytics capabilities like SQL and Python, to deliver meaningful and modern data solutions to our clients. Reporting to the VP of Engineering for Data and Analytics, you will collaborate closely with the managers of Data Engineering and Data Science.

Our ideal candidate will have experience managing developments to embed BI tools such as Looker and Sigma into client-facing web applications for SaaS use, leading a small global team across the US and UK, and working with cross-functional data teams in an agile or scrum environment. You’ll be comfortable partnering with business stakeholders and helping IT engineering teams improve their effectiveness. You’ll be able to quickly apply your experience and associated skills so our team becomes even more successful.

What you will be doing:

  • Building great relationships with our business stakeholders. Understanding our overall goals, organising activities to dig into detail of requirements and unearth risks and opportunities, building trust that you are in capable hands with project detail.
  • Helping to clarify business goals for data team members, and ensuring valuable technical quality and reliability work is well planned and understood by our Product Owner and stakeholders.
  • Building good relationships with developers on your team. Taking on line management responsibility for team members, helping them to grow in their careers and improve their effectiveness.
  • Facilitating and promoting agile / Scrum processes within the team.
  • Encouraging introspection, driving continuous improvement activities within the team.
  • Helping the team to develop a sense of ownership of their work and their product, in particular encouraging them to improve their development, build and QA practices and advocating for non-functional system improvements.
  • Getting involved in department improvements holistically. Through effective 1-1 networking or via best practice conversations with groups of colleagues, we’ll want to see our whole department improving from your energy, skills and experience.

Data Analytics as a centralised team within Engineering is a newer concept for Mintel. As a result, you will have the unique opportunity to establish best practices from the ground up. You will also have the opportunity to remain very hands-on in the early days of your role, and as a player-coach, will retain primary responsibility over the success of your own initiatives and those of your team.

We hope you’ll like our…

  • Culture that supports true collaboration whilst embracing remote working.
  • Generous holiday allowance with the opportunity to buy additional holiday.
  • Approach to personal development where every team member has two weeks of personal development time per year to learn and share what they’ve learned with others.
  • Frequent social events, both within the department and across the company.
  • A working model which is a blend of home and office working.
