Intro

We’re looking for Data Analysts to join us on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract, based in Darlington with hybrid working. Working closely with our Data & MI team, Operations colleagues and third‑party providers, you’ll help ensure that the data and reporting we rely on is robust, well‑governed and fit for purpose — enabling better decision‑making and great outcomes for our members.

Who we are

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.

Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

The Role

In this role, you’ll act as a key liaison for pensions administration data and reporting, helping to resolve data issues, improve data quality and support the design and use of management information.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Resolving outstanding data issues, working closely with Operations teams and third‑party providers to ensure data is accurate and complete

  • Providing technical support around pensions administration data, including reference data design and usage within core systems

  • Maintaining clear and accurate data mapping documentation, ensuring it reflects any new data items or changes in data usage

  • Supporting data‑related incidents, including providing technical input and ensuring issues are tracked and resolved effectively

  • Contributing to the design, testing and validation of reports, ensuring outputs are accurate before release to users

  • Running regular data checks and test criteria to proactively identify and address data quality issues

  • Supporting new or complex data requirements, including involvement in system enhancements and API‑related developments

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys problem‑solving, collaboration and taking ownership of data quality across a complex environment.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

The Person

We’re looking for someone who brings a strong technical understanding of data, alongside a collaborative and proactive mindset.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Has experience working with complex datasets and understands the importance of clean, well‑structured data

  • Is confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including technical teams, operations colleagues and third‑party suppliers

  • Takes a proactive approach suggesting solutions, not just identifying issues

  • Is adaptable and comfortable managing changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment

  • Has a strong attention to detail and takes pride in delivering accurate, high‑quality work

  • Values strong working relationships and contributes positively to team knowledge‑sharing and continuous improvement

You’ll also be organised and self‑disciplined, with the ability to manage your workload effectively while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.

Our values of integrity, community and alignment guide how we behave. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
