We're looking for a Credit Strategy Analyst to join our iwocaPay team, focusing on our lending strategy and credit risk.
Currently, our Credit Risk team consists of a Data Scientist focused on building and refining our credit risk models. As we scale, we need a strategic partner to own the analytical framework behind our lending decisions. You will bridge the gap between raw data and credit risk strategy, providing the insights needed to adjust our risk appetite, monitor performance, and launch new initiatives like invoice finance.
The company
Small businesses move fast. Opportunities often don’t wait, and cash flow pressures can appear overnight. To keep going, and growing, SMEs need finance that’s as flexible and responsive as they are.
That's why we built iwoca. Our smart technology, data science and five-star customer service ensures business owners can act with the speed, confidence and control they need, exactly when it's needed.
We’ve already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding. Our passionate team is driven to help even more SMEs succeed, through access to better finance and other services that make running a business easier. Our ultimate mission is to support one million SMEs in their defining moments, creating lasting impact for the communities and economies they drive.
The team
iwocaPay is a dynamic, fast-growing team of 40, organised into four squads. The Risk Squad is a cross-functional unit that focuses on credit assessments, fraud, and merchant counterparty risk. You will work closely with our current Data Scientist and future Head of Credit Risk (iwocaPay), acting as the "analytical backbone" of the squad to drive sustainable growth, while balancing our risk appetite. This will be a hybrid role in London (Tuesdays in office).
The role
The Credit Strategy Analyst role combines credit risk knowledge with technical analyses to drive iwocaPay’s performance. A successful candidate will be responsible for the team’s end-to-end analytical execution, providing the insights needed to balance our risk appetite and launch new initiatives.
Impact and Ownership
Lead the monthly monitoring of credit models and portfolio performance to ensure outcomes align with the risk appetite.
Own the strategic analyses of credit thresholds, providing evidence-based recommendations to expand or tighten lending.
Re-architect and maintain risk and performance dashboards to provide stakeholders with real-time visibility into portfolio health.
Innovation and Strategy
Identify and monitor shifting fraud behaviours to ensure the platform remains secure as it scales.
Collaborate on high-impact projects, such as launching invoice finance expansions and cross-sell initiatives.
Analyse seller profitability by segment to identify the most successful cohorts and optimise the lending strategy.
The requirements
Essential:
Analytical background, demonstrated through academic qualifications in a STEM field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
Proven commercial experience in credit risk or lending strategy, ideally within fintech or SME lending.
Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and ad-hoc analyses.
Experience using major data visualisation tools (such as Looker, Tableau, or PowerBI) to translate data into actionable insights.
Bonus:
Experience with invoice finance or B2B payments.
Experience working in a cross-functional risk or product team.
Experience working with machine learning models.
The salary
We expect to pay from £50,000–£70,000 for this role. But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.
