About the Team

OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make sure the work behind that idea is understood, as it leaves the lab and meets the world.

This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told, in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.

About the Role

As a Creative Director, you will lead the creative vision and execution of OpenAI’s brand across international markets. You will shape how global ideas are expressed locally - setting creative direction, elevating craft, and ensuring cultural relevance without compromising brand integrity.

This role sits at the intersection of global brand stewardship and local creative invention. You’ll partner closely with the U.S. Creative Studio to help define and evolve the global creative direction, while empowering regional teams, agencies, and partners to deliver work that feels authentic, distinctive, and world-class.

We’re looking for a creative leader who is conceptually rigorous, visually exceptional, culturally fluent, and deeply collaborative - someone who can both set the bar and bring others with them.

This role is based in London, UK. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead creative direction across international brand campaigns, marketing, digital, content, experiential, events, and partnerships

  • Translate global brand strategy and creative vision into compelling, culturally resonant executions across markets

  • Set and maintain a high bar for craft, concept, and storytelling across all outputs

  • Partner closely with the U.S. Creative Studio to align on global creative direction, systems, and standards

  • Guide and mentor designers and creatives, providing clear direction, feedback, and inspiration

  • Collaborate with regional marketing teams to develop market-specific ideas that are bold, relevant, and on-brand

  • Shape and evolve OpenAI’s visual systems, creative frameworks, and design principles with a global lens

  • Lead relationships with external agencies, production studios, and creative partners to deliver work at scale

  • Interpret strategy and briefs, identifying the core creative tension and turning it into breakthrough ideas

  • Act as a trusted creative partner to cross-functional stakeholders, balancing ambition with responsibility

You might thrive in this role if you:
  • Have 10+ years of creative direction expertise

  • Have a strong, distinctive portfolio demonstrating creative leadership, conceptual clarity, and exceptional craft across mediums

  • Bring experience leading brand work at a global or international scale, with sensitivity to cultural nuance

  • Are equally comfortable setting creative vision and getting hands-on when needed

  • Have a refined design eye and a strong point of view — and know how to articulate it clearly

  • Enjoy collaborating across cultures, markets, and time zones in complex, fast-moving environments

  • Are an empathetic leader who elevates teams through clarity, trust, and thoughtful feedback

  • Balance creativity with rigor, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of brand responsibility

  • Are excited by the role of creativity in shaping how transformative technology shows up in the world
