What you’ll be doing

We are seeking a talented and experienced corporate brand creative director who will lead visual identity and creative strategy for the Hitachi brand. The creative director will work with the Global Corporate Brand & Communications team (GBC) in Tokyo to ensure consistent application of our brand visual identity, strengthen alignment and collaboration between design functions across Hitachi, and provide necessary creative guidance and supervise design asset creation for key brand touchpoints.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the overall creative direction and brand visual identity for Hitachi and ensure it is aligned to Hitachi’s mid-term management plan

  • Liaise with design functions across Hitachi Group globally to improve collaboration on development of brand assets

  • Ensure consistency and quality of creative output across all channels and platforms

  • Provide creative guidance and concept and strategy stage to Hitachi’s agency partners for major corporate brand campaigns, key events, and other significant initiatives

  • With the GBC team, manage budgets for creative projects. The creative director will not be doing a high volume of hands-on design work, but may need to manage project teams and budgets for specific brand asset creation projects

  • Foster a brand-driven culture across Hitachi Group; educate and empower Hitachi Group employees to represent our brand authentically and consistently

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, fine arts, or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in creative leadership roles

  • Exceptional portfolio demonstrating a wide range of creative work

  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing, and advertising principles, including familiarity with brand architecture strategy and brand management best practices

  • Excellent communication skills and experience building consensus with diverse stakeholders

  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software (Figma, Adobe)

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate creative teams

  • Experience in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to attend occasional early morning or late evening meetings, and ability to travel overseas approximately 1-2 times/year

Preferred

  • UX/UI and digital product design experience

  • Experience in creative strategy for B2B brands

  • Type design and font development experience

  • Experience implementing brand identity system refreshes
