Based in Birmingham, Worcester, and Droitwich, Ballards is a progressive firm of chartered accountants helping businesses and private clients achieve stronger financial performance through integrated tax, audit, and consultancy expertise.

Following significant growth in our Corporate & Transactions Tax offering, we are looking for an experienced Corporate Tax Manager to join our expanding team.

This is a technically focused role working closely with senior members of the Corporate & Transactions Tax team, delivering a mix of complex compliance and corporate-focused advisory projects. You will take ownership of more technical compliance work while supporting a wide range of advisory assignments, with the support of junior team members.

About You:

Your compliance work will typically include corporation tax matters for audit clients, groups, companies with loss utilisation requirements and businesses that have undertaken tax planning to ensure implementation is accurately reflected.

Advisory projects will vary depending on client needs and commonly include reorganisations, business sales, EMI and other share schemes, tax valuations, EIS advice and wider corporate structuring matters. You will also have exposure to cross-border considerations and broader tax areas such as capital gains tax, international PAYE, SDLT, stamp duty and inheritance tax as they relate to planning projects.

Alongside technical delivery, you will:

  • Liaise directly with HMRC, clients and third parties
  • Research and interpret complex tax legislation, communicating it clearly and practically
  • Manage multiple compliance and advisory assignments with strong workflow control
  • Train and mentor junior members of the Corporate & Transactions Tax team
  • Contribute to business development activities, including technical marketing and events (if desired)
  • Play an active role in supporting the firm’s continued growth ambitions

About the Role:

  • ATT or ACA qualification with 2–3 years’ post-qualification experience in a corporate tax compliance and/or advisory role
  • CTA qualification or a desire to study towards it
  • Strong UK corporate tax knowledge with a pragmatic, commercial mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisation skills with the ability to manage deadlines independently
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • A genuine desire to grow professionally and contribute positively to firm culture

Experience working with not-for-profit organisations or familiarity with Alphatax would be advantageous, but is not essential.

About the Rewards:

  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • Career progression
  • Electric Car scheme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • Group Personal Pension Plan
  • Flexible Holiday Purchase Scheme
  • Enhanced Family Pay – maternity, paternity, parental, and compassionate leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme – 24/7 confidential helpline as well as online support
