Description

At , we are on a mission to find and work with leading banks all around the world who have the ambition to build rapid growth businesses, on our technology.

Engine is Starling's software-as-a-service (SaaS) business, the technology that was built to power Starling Bank, and two years ago we split out as a separate business.

has seen exceptional growth and success, and a large part of that is down to the fact that we have built our own modern technology from the ground up. This SaaS technology platform is now available to banks and financial institutions all around the world, enabling them to benefit from the innovative digital features, and efficient back-office processes that has helped achieve Starling's success.

We draw upon our experience as knowledgeable bankers, and best in class technologists to become the chosen option for these banks, and preferred partners for leading consultancies.

As a company, everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves to help deliver great outcomes for our clients. We are an engineering led company and we’re looking for someone who will be excited by the potential for Engine’s technology to transform banking in different markets around the world.

Hybrid Working

We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Engine - our preference is that you're located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we're able to interact and collaborate in person.

About the role

We’re looking to expand our Engine by Starling business development team with a Content Writer. In this role, you’ll be responsible for building Engine’s brand and proposition through words – whether that’s on our website, social media (LinkedIn predominantly) or events. You’ll help express what makes Engine by Starling special, and your writing will continue to set the tone for how we talk about ourselves. It is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK’s most exciting B2B SaaS technology companies to help shape and execute our content strategy.

What you'll get to do

  • As the first Content Writer on the team, you’ll be integral to the building of the brand and applying it consistently across our internal and external communications. You will be writing copy for the website, collateral, social media, video demos and other comms channels, to help us communicate the Engine by Starling offering to prospective clients (this is a B2B role).
  • Craft themes and help run the editorial calendar for Engine. Develop concepts across formats (written, video) and write thought-leadership articles, thinking about the future of the industry in blogs, whitepapers/reports and interviews with internal stakeholders and our partners.
  • Work closely with Starling Bank Group’s corporate affairs team to stay aligned on messaging and content themes; collaborating on any relevant pieces of work.
  • Adopt a strategic approach to our awards strategy planning (which may include working with an agency), ensuring that every award is adding strategic value, and that the right stories are entered into the right categories of the right awards.
  • Collaborate with our designers to bring new pages of our website to life and refresh old ones, making sure that copy works as hard as it can to illustrate the Engine proposition.
  • Continue to evolve our brand voice guidelines, making sure they’re useful and practical for every part of the business, from staff onboarding and individual approaches to work, to how we present ourselves externally and interact and with clients.
  • Use data, such as SEO performance and website statistics, to measure the effectiveness of our content and understand the performance of our output — then using that insight to regularly improve.
  • Run training sessions on tone of voice for other areas in the business, teaching others to write in a clear, human and jargon-free way. You will support other members of the business with their writing, where necessary.
Requirements
  • Understanding and experience in copywriting in the finance and fintech industry or within a SaaS environment.
  • The ability to demystify and reiterate complex subjects with clear, human and jargon-free language.
  • Ability to write compelling copy about technical product detail.
  • Able to adapt quickly to a new brand voice (and help shape it).
  • Confident at presenting your work and being open to feedback.
  • A head for strategy, with the foresight to see how your work fits into the bigger picture.

Interview Process

Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:

  • Initial video interview with someone from the BD/Marketing team - 45 mins
  • More in depth interview with Head of Marketing - 60 mins
  • Final Interview with Chief Commercial Officer ~45 minutes
Benefits
  • 33 days holiday (including public holidays, which you can take when it works best for you)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary & group income protection
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Incentives refer a friend scheme
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work, Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships and Electric Vehicle (EV) leasing

About Us

You may be put off applying for a role because you don't tick every box. Forget that! While we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we're always open to discussion. So, if you're excited about working with us, but aren’t sure if you're 100% there yet, get in touch anyway. We’re on a mission to radically reshape banking – and that starts with our brilliant team. Whatever came before, we’re proud to bring together people of all backgrounds and experiences who love working together to solve problems.
