Job Description

Consultant / Senior Consultant – Strategy & Economics

UK, with flexibility on office location across London, Manchester, Edinburgh

Do you enjoy tackling complex strategic, policy, economic and commercial questions for public and private-sector clients? Are you experienced in shaping strategies and policies, appraising options, assessing economic impacts or building robust business and investment cases? Would you like to turn evidence into clear recommendations that inform and support strategic decisions across major infrastructure, sustainability and transition challenges?

If this sounds like you, join Ramboll Management Consulting UK and help our clients understand opportunities, make investment decisions and translate strategy into action.

Your new role

Help clients make better strategic, policy and investment decisions.

We are looking for a Consultant or Senior Consultant with a background in management consulting, economics or a related advisory discipline. You will combine structured problem-solving, rigorous analysis and clear communication to help public- and private-sector clients assess opportunities, appraise options and develop strategies and business cases.

Working across energy, infrastructure, transport and sustainability, you will collaborate with Ramboll’s technical specialists to turn evidence into practical recommendations. You will bring a particular strength in strategy and commercial advisory, economic appraisal or policy analysis, with opportunities to develop across complementary areas.

Our work spans three complementary areas:

  • Strategy and commercial advisory: market assessment, commercial analysis, growth strategy, investment appraisal and strategic options.
  • Economics and public policy: economic appraisal, cost-benefit analysis, economic impact assessment, policy analysis and evaluation.
  • Consulting delivery: structured problem-solving, analytical workstream leadership, project management, client relationships and evidence-based recommendations.

A particular strength of Ramboll's management consulting offer is the ability to combine management consulting with wider technical and subject-matter expertise. Work alongside economists, strategy consultants, engineers and sustainability specialists, combining rigorous analysis with technical insight to develop recommendations grounded in how infrastructure, markets and investment decisions work in practice.

At Consultant level, you will take ownership of analytical workstreams and contribute directly to client advice. At Senior Consultant level, you will lead projects, manage client relationships, guide colleagues and contribute to winning new work.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Undertaking market, commercial and strategic assessments, including market studies, feasibility studies and analysis of investment and growth opportunities.
  • Undertake economic appraisal and develop business and investment cases, applying quantitative and qualitative evidence and drawing on economic, commercial, financial and sustainability analysis to assess impacts, appraise strategic options and support robust policy and investment decisions.
  • Leading projects and workstreams from problem definition through to recommendation, structuring analysis, coordinating colleagues and ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Engaging directly with clients and senior stakeholders, communicating insights through clear presentations, reports and compelling recommendations.
  • Supporting the growth of our strategy, economics and advisory work, including contributing to proposals, developing client relationships, developing new services and identifying opportunities across our priority markets.

About you

You will bring depth in one or more of strategy and commercial advisory, economic appraisal, or policy analysis and evaluation. We do not expect expertise across every service area; we value strong analytical judgement and the ability to work with colleagues who bring complementary skills.

We believe the following experience and capabilities will set you up for success:

  • Relevant experience in management consulting, economic consulting, public policy or a comparable analytical advisory role in the UK or Ireland, with evidence of translating complex analysis into practical recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Strong experience in business case development, market assessment, feasibility studies and/or strategy development, with the ability to undertake research and turn evidence and analysis into practical client recommendations. Experience in the application of HM Treasury Green Book appraisal and the Five Case Model would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills, including client engagement, presentations, report writing and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to senior audiences.
  • Experience of managing consulting projects or significant workstreams, including coordinating and supporting other team members.
  • Knowledge of at least one of our priority sectors: energy; finance; or transport, infrastructure and mobility, combined with curiosity and a desire to develop expertise across new topics and sectors.

What we can offer you

  • Investment in your development
  • Leaders you can count on, guided by our Leadership Principles
  • Be valued for the unique person you are
  • Never be short of inspiration from colleagues, clients, and projects
  • The long-term thinking of a foundation-owned company
  • Flexible work environment
  • Hybrid working
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Matched pension contributions
  • Private medical cover and life assurance
