Location: Remote in Guinea, West Africa

Duration: 12 months

The Pic de Fon Classified Forest, located in Guinea's Beyla and Macenta prefectures, spans 26,300 hectares. Established in 1953, this biodiversity-rich area is crucial for the conservation of diverse flora and fauna, including significant populations of West African chimpanzees.

As the technical partner, BirdLife International, working alongside Guinée-Ecologie, will coordinate conservation efforts and monitor environmental impacts under the Pic de Fon Classified Forest’s Five-Year Management Plan.

BirdLife International is inviting technical and financial proposals from suitably qualified Communications Consultants to develop and implement a communications strategy that will ensure the timely and effective flow of information among key stakeholders including local communities, government, civils society, and private sector among others.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES:

1. Pic De Fon Project Communications Strategy

· Comprehensive communications strategy developed and approved, including key messages, target audiences, communication channels, branding guidelines, and implementation framework.

2. Annual Communications Plans

· Annual communications work plans developed and implemented, aligned with project work plans and reporting schedules.

3. Communications Materials

· Regular production and dissemination of: Success stories and human-interest stories; Press releases and media briefs; Brochures, fact sheets, flyers, and infographics; Social media content and digital campaigns; and branded visibility materials.

1. Media Engagement and Visibility

· Media contact database established and maintained.

· Media outreach activities conducted.

· Increased coverage of project activities in print, broadcast, online, and social media platforms.

2. Event Communications and Visibility Support

  • Communications support provided for project meetings, workshops, stakeholder forums, and field events.

  • Event coverage reports, photographs, videos, and communication products developed and disseminated.

3. Photography and Videography Management

  • Curated library of high-quality project photographs and videos maintained.

  • Multimedia content shared with BirdLife Africa communications teams in a timely manner.

  • Appropriate consent documentation collected, filed, and linked to relevant materials.

4. Project Communications Repository

  • Centralized and regularly updated repository containing all communications products, multimedia assets, branding materials, media outputs, and consent records.

5. Capacity Building for Guinee Ecologie

  • Training sessions, coaching, and mentorship provided to the communications focal point.

  • Capacity-building materials and guidance notes developed.

  • Demonstrable improvement in communications planning, content development, and media engagement capacity.

6. Communications Monitoring and Reporting

  • Quarterly communications progress updates (where required).

  • Annual communications report documenting activities, outputs, reach, media coverage, lessons learned, and recommendations.

7. Additional Communications Support

  • Timely delivery of other communications-related assignments and products as requested by the designated supervisor(s).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English. Knowledge of other local languages spoken in Nzerekore region of Guinea is an asset.

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communications strategies.

  • He/she should have advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite in addition to basic design and layout skills, adept in using Adobe Photoshop, Canva and other content production tools.

  • Proven experience in media relations.

  • Experience managing digital communications platforms and social media engagement is an added advantage.

  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to deliver quality output with tight deadlines

  • The candidate should be able to work independently – with minimum supervision and guidance from supervisors.

  • Prior communications experience in the conservation sector is an added advantage
