Accountable for applying subject matter expertise to shape capability priorities across Management Development. 
The role translates business strategy into targeted capability needs within its domain and designs scalable development solutions, increasingly incorporating digital learning approaches where appropriate. 
It enables the delivery of impactful, integrated development experiences by ensuring alignment with Learning & Capability standards, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and leveraging data and insights to inform design and continuous improvement. 

Responsibilities

Capability Strategy Diagnosis 

  • Lead Management Development capability assessments to identify current and future skill, behaviour, and mindset requirements. 
  • Translate business strategy into capability priorities and development opportunities. 
  • Apply Management Development expertise to guide Learning & Capability strategic decisions and shape relevant development content, while offering thought leadership to strengthen the L&CD function overall strategy and continuously improve internal practices. 

Solution Design & Ownership 

  • Design scalable development frameworks, journeys, and programmes that address identified capability gaps. 
  • Define learning objectives, structure, and success criteria to ensure strategic alignment and learner relevance. 
  • Ensure development solutions evolve with digital learning trends and remain accessible, scalable, and relevant. 
  • Act as product owner of development solutions within Management Development, guiding evolution and ensuring relevance over time. 

Development Oversight & Collaboration 

  • Provide strategic direction and quality assurance during the development phase, ensuring fidelity to design intent. 
  • Set clear briefs and expected outcomes for facilitators and third-party partners. 
  • Contribute to a shared operating rhythm across Learning & Capability teams, embracing agile and structured approaches. 
  • Offer informal mentoring and guidance to internal teams and stakeholders to support capability uplift. 
  • Partner with Design & Standards Lead to ensure consistency and adherence to L&CD frameworks. 

Stakeholder Engagement & Integration 

  • Partner with business and functional leaders to shape development priorities and influence investment decisions. 
  • Align stakeholders around shared capability goals and embed learning into transformation efforts. 
  • Collaborate closely with internal specialists (e.g., Insights & Engagement, Design & Standards, Budgeting & Reporting, Coaching & Leadership Development Lead) to ensure data-informed, standards-aligned, and financially sound development solutions. 
  • Embed development solutions within broader talent frameworks, ensuring consistency across functions and career levels. 

Governance & Impact Measurement 

  • Co-approve solution briefs and KPIs, ensuring shared ownership of outcomes and alignment with L&CD standards. 
  • Leverage data and insights to inform design decisions and support continuous improvement. 
  • Incorporate learner feedback and performance data to refine solutions and enhance learning experience 

 

Qualifications

Experience & Expertise

 • Proven experience in strategic learning and capability roles, ideally within complex, matrixed organisations.

 • Deep subject matter expertise in Management Development. 

• Strong track record of designing scalable development solutions with measurable impact (Kirkpatrick Level 3 & 4). 

• Experience influencing senior stakeholders and shaping investment decisions in learning and capability. Skills & Competencies

 • Strategic thinking and diagnostic capability to translate business needs into development priorities. 

 • Advanced design skills, including digital learning approaches and frameworks

 • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills across functions and levels

.• Data literacy and analytical mindset to leverage insights for design and continuous improvement. 

• Ability to mentor and guide others to uplift capability across the organisation. 

Qualifications

 • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Learning & Development, Organisational Psychology, or related field (preferred).

• Certification in learning design, coaching, or digital learning tools (desirable).

Salary up to circa £70,000 (dependant on experience) plus 10% bonus
