About the Role of Compliance Manager SMF16:

The Compliance Manager will take overall responsibility for the design, implementation, and oversight of Love Finance Limited’s compliance and regulatory framework. Acting as the firm’s SMF16, they will serve as the primary liaison with the FCA, ensuring the business operates in full accordance with relevant regulations while enabling sustainable commercial growth. The role covers SME lending, consumer credit, and future regulated propositions, including EMI/Payment Services, Retail Banking, and Credit Cards.

Key Responsibilities of the Compliance Manager SMF16

Regulatory Oversight & Governance

  • Hold overall responsibility for FCA compliance, including SYSC, CONC, PRIN, COCON, SMCR and DISP
  • Maintain an open and cooperative regulatory relationship with the FCA
  • Advise COO, CEO and Board on compliance risk and regulatory expectations
  • Ensure senior management fit & proper requirements under SMCR
  • Lead the Compliance Monitoring Plan and Risk Control Framework

Policy & Control Framework

  • Design, maintain, and embed compliance policies across conduct, promotions, complaints, whistleblowing, ABC & data protection.
  • Ensure systems meet Consumer Duty, Treating Customers Fairly and fair value obligations.
  • Conduct regulatory horizon scanning and thematic reviews.
  • Develop governance for Credit, EMI & future banking permissions.

Monitoring, MI & Reporting

  • Deliver the Compliance Monitoring Plan and maintain the Breach Log.
  • Produce MI for Board/Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Liaise with internal/external audit and ensure remediation tracking.
  • File FCA notifications, returns and regulatory submissions.

Training & Cultural Leadership

  • Promote a strong conduct and compliance culture.
  • Deliver structured training to all staff.
  • Provide first‑line advisory support and ensure ownership of controls.

External Regulatory Liaison

  • Act as the primary contact for the FCA and relevant authorities.
  • Manage regulatory notifications, returns, and correspondence.
  • Lead responses to regulatory requests and thematic reviews.
  • Represent the firm in appropriate external forums.

About You as Compliance Manager SMF16:

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a compliance/regulatory role within a UK bank, lender, or FCA-regulated institution.
  • Strong working knowledge of the FCA Handbook (particularly SYSC, CONC, PRIN, DISP).
  • Proven readiness to hold (or previously held) SMF16 approval.
  • Experience designing and embedding compliance frameworks and monitoring programmes.
  • Strong grasp of Consumer Duty, SMCR, and Conduct Risk requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage effectively at Board and regulator level.
  • Strong analytical and drafting abilities with exceptional attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience in a non-bank lender, fintech, or broker-lender environment.
  • Understanding of credit risk, underwriting, and portfolio controls.
  • Professional qualifications (ICA, CISI, or equivalent).
  • Experience leading or mentoring compliance professionals.
