Job Description

The best things about the job: 

  • In this role there is a huge scope to drive creative and impactful campaigns and grow further understanding for who Trainline is and the benefits it brings for consumers looking to book rail travel in the UK and Europe.

  • You’ll be part of a tight-knit, highly creative and supportive comms team based in various locations across Europe, who work closely together to brainstorm and problem-solve in order to drive results. 

  • You’ll also be part of a wider team focussed on the Italian and Foreign Travel markets who will be keen to collaborate with you in order to drive growth. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Developing creative consumer campaigns and activations. Working with the wider team to ideate and deliver activities that build the profile of Trainline with consumers, driving consideration and usage.

  • Grow the Italian and Foreign Travel PR programme, developing a network of consumer tech, travel and lifestyle media advocates, educating and updating them on who we are, our new product features and how we increasingly help people all over the world have an easier, more seamless travel experience. 

  • Briefing and managing our consumer PR agencies, in the relevant markets, in the development and execution of our consumer PR activity, helping to drive awareness and users for Trainline. 

  • Drafting and reviewing press materials including releases, briefing documents and media Q&A. 

  • Working closely with the data team to extract insights and demonstrate trends to drive consumer media coverage for Trainline. 

  • Developing relationships with the Brand team to ensure alignment in plans and objectives. 

  • Collaborating with the Brand and Social Media team. 

  • Staying close to product innovations and leveraging these to drive media coverage in a wide range of media including consumer tech, travel and lifestyle titles.

  • Working with retained PR teams in country, monitoring the media agenda in relevant markets for story opportunities to piggyback and drive coverage for Trainline. 

  • Staying on the pulse of relevant news to share with key internal stakeholders. 

  • Building relationships with internal stakeholders to champion coverage secured, educate on the role of PR and how it can best support teams throughout the business in driving growth. 

Qualifications


  • 6+ years’ experience working in PR (predominantly B2C), either in an agency or in-house 

  • Experiencing of working in international markets – Italy specifically being a plus! 

  • Taking ownership of small to medium scale PR programmes from planning through to delivery and evaluation

  • Developing press materials and pitching to media

  • Managing influencer activity across social media

  • Working in a fast-paced environment, highly motivated with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and prioritise own workload 

  • A good sense of what makes an interesting news hook and how to communicate this in a compelling way to deliver media coverage

  • Managing media interview opportunities

  • Working with a variety of stakeholders outside of Comms/PR - working on multi-channel campaigns 

  • Knowledge of the Italian media and local language skills desirable but not compulsory 

Desired experience: 

  • Working with, or for, a tech or travel company/known consumer tech brand 

  • Managing PR agency relationships 

Capabilities:

  • Excellent media relations ability – skilled with picking up the phone to journalists and get a thrill from pitching a story

  • Strong writing skills and a keen eye for detail 

  • A genuine interest in the tech industry and desire to stay up to date with the latest industry developments and trends; culturally tuned in and inquisitive 

  • A self-starting attitude, and you’ll need to be organised, results-focused and a team player 

  • Italian language capabilities desirable, but not compulsory
