Orbital Industries is an AI Industrial company, with frontier AI embedded at every step in the production of critical physical products - from creating advanced materials to engineering and manufacturing.

Every Orbital Industries product is developed using CurieOS, our AI operating system, uniting AI-automated hardware engineering with AI-designed material science to achieve breakthrough real-world performance. We also offer CurieOS to our customers and partners, extending the same platform and workflows that power Orbital Industries to their own teams and products.

We have an ambitious mission and need excellent people in all our teams - AI research, operations, advanced materials, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and manufacturing.

Working at Orbital Industries means working in vertically integrated teams across the full stack, from molecules to manufacturing. We're looking for people who have a love of physical technology, curiosity in AI and a desire to learn.

Role Overview

We're hiring a Communications Lead to define how Orbital Industries is understood in the market - and to build the communications motion that makes that understanding stick.

This is a category-creation brief. You'll articulate what the AI Industrial is, why CurieOS matters, and how Orbital Industries' full-lifecycle approach (materials, engineering, hardware) represents something genuinely new. You'll translate deep technical work - across AI, materials science, and hardware engineering - into clear, distinctive, high-quality communication that builds authority with investors, technical buyers, talent, and the broader market.

Your job is to set the strategic direction: brand voice, messaging frameworks, content strategy, and open doors for media.

Key Responsibilities

Communications Strategy and Brand Voice

  • Define and own Orbital Industries' external communications strategy — how we are positioned, perceived, and understood in the market

  • Build and enforce consistency in brand voice across all external channels: website, social, events, collateral, press

  • Set the messaging framework for CurieOS and its three pillars (Materials, Deployment, Hardware), ensuring our full-lifecycle positioning is sharp and differentiated

  • Write strong creative and messaging briefs for design, video, and campaign work — giving the GTM team clear strategic direction to execute against

  • Ensure a clean separation between Orbital Industries (brand authority, category definition) and Orbital IT (commercial, customer-facing) in how we communicate externally

Stakeholder messaging

  • Work closely with the CFO and founders to ensure investor messaging reflects Orbital Industries' positioning as the AI Industrial category leader, not just a product company

  • Translate technical milestones (CurieOS releases, customer deployments, materials breakthroughs) into compelling narratives

Content and copy

  • Own long-form writing, thought leadership, website messaging, investor content, and campaign assets - from strategy through to production

  • Produce content that makes Orbital Industries' work in AI, materials science and hardware engineering accessible without losing credibility or nuance — you know the difference between simplifying and dumbing down

  • Develop and maintain CurieOS content across its three pillars: materials discovery, deployment engineering, and hardware product development

  • Use LLMs and modern tools to work efficiently while maintaining high editorial standards

Social Media Strategy

  • Own organic social strategy: voice, editorial calendar, content direction and output quality

  • Build Orbital Industries' social presence into a distinctive point of view, not just a broadcast channel — the GTM team handles day-to-day posting and scheduling

  • Track developments across AI infrastructure and adjacent industries to keep content timely and credible

  • Partner with the GTM Lead to align organic and paid social messaging

Website messaging

  • Own website copy and landing-page messaging, ensuring it is sharp, current and aligned to business priorities

  • Work closely with the GTM team on copy for campaign landing pages — you own the message, they own the conversion optimisation and testing cycle

Press and Media

  • Develop Orbital Industries' press function - strengthening media relationships, identifying opportunities, and positioning the company for coverage that reinforces our authority in the AI Industrial category

  • Amplify founder positioning for external audiences, interviews, speaking engagements and media appearances

  • Manage freelance press support and scale the function as the company grows

What We're Looking For

  • Significant leadership experience in communications, content, editorial or brand storytelling — ideally in a technical, deep-tech or science-adjacent environment. Experience with investor communications or fundraising narratives is a strong plus

  • An excellent writer with strong editorial taste and clear judgement; your portfolio should demonstrate range across long-form, short-form and messaging work

  • Deep curiosity about AI, science, engineering or technical products — you follow these spaces because you're genuinely interested, not because it's your job

  • The ability to make technical ideas accessible without losing credibility or nuance

  • Comfortable owning both strategy and execution — you can set the direction, produce the work, and build the systems that maintain quality without you touching every piece

  • Experience building or significantly expanding a communications function — you should find creating something from scratch exciting, not uncomfortable

  • High standards for writing, messaging, and brand consistency — you notice when things drift and you fix them before they compound

  • Strong collaborative instincts — you'll work closely with technical founders, engineers, a GTM Lead, a design function. You need to influence without owning every channel

  • Experience briefing and managing creative work: design, video, freelance writers, press agencies

  • Science degree or background is preferred

Why Join Orbital Industries?
  • Competitive salary and equity package - the ability to own part of Orbital Industries as we grow

  • Flexible and generous paid time off

  • Excellent health, dental and vision insurance plan

  • Regular company offsites to the USA and beyond

  • The chance to define the narrative for a new category — the AI Industrial — at a company where communications is a strategic function, not a support one

Orbital is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
