Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Commercial Supply Chain Planning will oversee production planning, distribution planning, exemptions management, order and inventory management for the International region.

The Supply Chain Director has broad influence within established global supply networks and will foster interdisciplinary understanding and integrate activities both within and outside the Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain organization

This role will lead a team to translate commercial demand forecasts into supply and distribution plans, working together with internal and external stakeholders, to ensure inventory levels are maintained, and supply is delivered on time in full to distribution centres. 

The Director sets the standards for work within their function and has responsibility for the development of group goals, resource plans, and budgets.

The position is located in London, UK, and will report directly to the Executive Director of International Supply Chain Management based in London, UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the team, set direction, motivate staff, resolve conflict, develop talent, ensure compliance
  • Define department goals and performance targets in line with business priorities, ensures optimal use of resources, delivering value for the company. Influence objectives across the supply chain network
  • Identifies risks and opportunities with regards to supply and distribution matters. Ensures processes and operating rhythm is adhered to and fitting the evolving business context.
  • Communicates supply related intelligence within both routine governance (International and Global) and ad-hoc forums. Manages the escalation processes and narrative on availability challenges. 
  • Owns the stock policy for products within the International portfolio. Contributes to product strategy and feeds into lifecycle recommendations
  • Defines capability framework for the team, ensures calibration with the company and external alignment
  • Develop and implement business and technical strategies for SC Planning
  • Determine staffing needs in line with pipeline ambition and business objectives
  • Support network strategy and supplier selection
  • Relationship lead for Supply Planning matters with both CDMOs and 3PL. Contribute to governance of external partners and owns functional specific continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally beyond Supply Chain (Quality, Finance, Accounting, MS&T, Internal Audit, IT) to develop processes and procedures that ensure compliance and drive efficiency
  • Own production planning for goods produced within the International region
  • Own planning of distribution of goods across the 3PL and distributor network
  • Own inventory accuracy for Accounting and Planning purposes, which implies  alignment with external CDMOs/3PL/Distributors
  • Own the management of Exemptions supply, ensuring availability, compliance and efficiency of supplies of packs that are not country-specific
  • Own the management of the APDL (Approved Product Distribution List) that governs what product can be distributed where. Ensures support to Customer Services to define the right distribution channel is used for each order and that the batch corresponds the customer specific requirements
  • Primary owner of Supply Planning processes and projects including designing, drafting, reviewing and approving standard operating procedures for group activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or business discipline

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically requires >10 years of experience working within supply chain in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably within Planning roles
  • Specialized depth of knowledge on regulations relating to pharmaceutical supply chain activities (GxP)
  • Experience in building and managing high-performing teams
  • Demonstrates ability to make challenging decisions in high-pressure situations, often involving intricate processes and technology
  • Able to contribute to complex contract negotiations
  • Possesses a distinguished record of delivering on critical project goals, moving projects forward and unlocking budget opportunities
  • Significant project management skills and highly proficient at managing, tracking, and measuring progress
  • Displays proven effectiveness in managing customer expectations, communicating in complex or sensitive situations, facilitating mutually beneficial outcomes and influencing/guiding others to adopt a new point of view
  • Demonstrates strong aptitude for motivating others and building team unity
  • Very strong analytical and problem solving skills, often addressing novel/unusual situations and exercising judgement based on significant technical experience
  • Highly skilled at preparing and presenting informational and compelling reports, delivering to a variety of audiences

TRAVEL:

This position will require 15% travel to suppliers and Vertex offices internationally.
